So after my Z1C got damaged I ordered Z3 Compact. The phone is great. I have no complaints about hardware side, software on the oher hand... So I discovered that apps that did not come preinstalled cannot write to SD card. It is beyond me why Sony cannot add an option (yet every other useless app that come preinstalled and that none ever uses have like 100% unrestricted access to the phone) maybe in developers menu to allow such permission. At this point I dont know what to do, rooting the phone will void the warranty and also downgrade the camera/picture quality.
Well done, Sony, as usual release a very capable device yet restrict it with poor software choices.
That's not a Sony restriction that's Google, you should google around and you'lll learn about Android restrictions on SD cards. Don't forget to contact the Android developers.
But how? I did not buy a nexus device, I bought sony, customised with sonys own apps and services, can they not add another tiny option to allow full sd card access?
Did you google it? it's not just Sony, it's Android itself, Android, not Sony has this restrictions, Google has promised to loosen up a bit on such restrictions.
Nexus devices don't support SD cards, as Google is trying to kill the SD card.
As uliwooly says, this is standard for Android and as i understand it, it's not optional to have this security feature.
But with Android 5.0 which we're now rolling out, 3:rd party apps can write to any folder on the external SD card again but the app developers needs to add support for this feature in Android 5.0. You'll get an option from Android where you can select which folders the app should have access to.
