Z3 Compact - are you satisfied? who has these problems?

1) auto-rotate screen does not work properly,

2) cap for usb and sd target connection is continuosly openning

3) camera starts by mistake in the pocket and takes pictures

4) camera focus works really bad, even with 20 Mpixels the quality of pictures is not good, i normally take pictures of documents and with this phone, later i cannot read them

5) i cannot close apps to save the consume of data (even with programs like app killer os stuff like that, online radio keeps playing even if i close it)

6) apps cache records is huge, all apps spend a lot of memory in the phone, i dont have sd card and in month of using it and only 5 Gigas of music the phone is always full

7) Even if i configure the phone to save passwords of websites, i always have to write them again and again, specially in websites which some wifis open automatically to confirm access

😎 im so boring of the phone asking me which app do i want to open some file..

and the worst...

10) today the phone felt from a 50 cm heigh bed to a rubber floor and the screen broke!! i cannot use the phone at all, im not in my country so i will have to buy a new one here till im home, just to be able to communicate with my family and friends...i thought it was a resistant phone, and with the most weak impact, its out of the game...

CONCLUSSIONS: I am not happy at all with my brand new Phone, i wish i could go back to my old phone, with better quality of pics using a camera with lowing MPixes rate, usable, easy to configure,...

yeah, those are all my complains, (the last one is that the phone is really weak),

and thank you for the help, but the post was to see if someone else have the same problems, DOES SOMEONE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS???

i will fix the phone when im back home,  im sure i will have to pay for fixing it, what can i do.

Hello Largacha,

I have had this phone since Saturday... I am pretty much new to this phone and hopefully I won't encounter any of the issues that troubles many users..... However I am not new to Xperia phones and I consider myself an expert user and quick learner with tech...

I think your issues might be related to the following:

1) Smart Rotate might be turned On, which in my case works but it lags a little for the "smart" function to kick in. Go to Settings > Display > Screen Rotation and turn off "Smart Screen Rotation".

2) I haven't had this issue, maybe yours is faulty.

3) This can be related to "Tap to Wake Up" function... I have it turned On and it works 90% of the time, but sometimes it DOES turn the screen while in my pants pocket and start dialing emergency numbers or shooting the camera.... But I need this function so the benefits outweight the cons.... You can turn it off under Settings > Display > Tap to Wake Up

4) Try cleaning the lens of the camera softly... mine had smudges when I got it and took cloudy pictures but a with a soft cloth I cleaned it and works like a charm, I am actually very impressed with the focusing capabilities in low light... If this is not your problem, try clearing cache and data from the camera app, and see if that works.

5) You might have a bad app running in the background, and it really is advisable to NOT use Task Killers on these phones..... you might want to limit Background Data usage.... Settings > Data Usage > *select the app* > scroll down to "Restrict background data" and check that box.

6) I strongly recommend you to get a microSD card and put your Music, Movies and Pictures there... the internal memory will be filled very soon if not... No way around it, this phone has a SD slot for a reason.

7) This is managed by your browser... In my case I use Google Chrome and it is linked to your gmail account... it works perfectly for me. (it is not the phone fault)

😎 You can set those to open "ALWAYS" and it will never ask to use an alternative app unless you download an additional app that also opens what you intend to do.... This is actually a GOOD thing to have, in iOS you have absolutely NO choice and you are stuck opening links directly in Safari, or files directly to the native apps... Android actually lets you choose and you have the option to choose each time or simply set it to always do the same... I encourage you to set to "always" all the apps that annoy you with the question...

9) I haven't drop my phone in fear of the glass weakness that's shown in this forum, however my phone has got HOT already on my Car Stereo (with a dock, XSP-N1BT) and it reached 47°Celsius without a problem... of course I let it cool down, but thankfully, temperature did not crack my glass.

Good luck, hopefully you can get it fixed and sort these issues. For me it has been a wonderful device, though I know it might be very delicate, I am using it with a rubber case (Ringke Fusion) and with a Wrist Strap for preventing falls from my hand.

Well largacha, sorry to hear that you have these "problems" with the Z3c, and that it broke...

On your first question I can only answer with a big YES, I own it for 2 months now and I am very happy with it!

I don't recognize all your problems, but here's my 2 cents:

1) auto-rotate screen works fine with me, I don't use smart rotate, and when I don't want it to rotate (f.i. reading in bed), I simply turn it off through quick phone settings.

2) not with my phone, caps stay firmly closed

3) Mine also did, so I disabled "Quick start" in the camera app settings, problem solved (tip on a forum)

4) I am very satisfied with the camera, though I don't always use the automatic settings. You have to play with any camera to get the best results. Pictures of documents are no problem, focusing is ok.

5) Don't use task killers. You can use several settings in apps and/or phone to save the consume of data (Stamina mode or "reduce data in background"). Use a good radio app, like Tune-In, it doesn't use data in the background when you switch it off.

6) It's not an iPhone, it has a card slot, so use it    Just put in a 16 or 32 Gb card and put all your pictures and music on it! With some apps it's ok to clear the app-cache now and then, but normally there is little need.

7) First, check your browser settings (I use Chrome). I have no problems, but sometimes websites force you to write passwords again (security), even if you choosed to save them.

😎 Just choose your favorite app en choose "Always", you won't get the question again.

9) You couldn't remember this one? 

10) I found the phone to be slippery, so I bought a protective case (Muvit minigel) which gives you a better hold and protects your device. And it's not the phone's fault that it broke when you dropped it... Some years ago, I owned a Nokia E52, no touch screen, no real glass. It felt down from my bed on a wooden floor, and the display broke inside and the device was unusable. It was the beginning of the "breakable phone era", guess we have to deal with it... Bad luck can happen to anyone, so I have an insurance with my phone now, and use it without worrying

Of course you are free to get another phone model if you don't like the Z3c, but I do!

Have had three z3 compacts, z2 and z1 and z plus z tabs in last 18months and all are crap.

Screen broke sponaneously on first z3 compact while just sitting on a table.

Second z3 compact just shut down with 87% battery and could not be restarted (and yes tried numerous times all the resart procedures). Also back glass broke while in my pocket.

Third z3 compact I bought only because of the good camera and guess what camera does't work at all. Tried all the stupid resets and no good. Also cover for usb/ mem card slot wont stay closed.

Z1 when two weeks old was dropped on lino bench form about six inches and screen cracked. Didn't fix this one because it always shut down and needed to have long charge plus bat reset .

Z2... screen only prob as it broke from falling 2ft onto rubber floor.(only used for a few days)

Z died after I used it in the rain. Z appart from water issues was best

Z tablets we have only problem is that usb ports are square and loose. One tabs port no longer working which as sony had already stopped make charger cradles before I bought it new. (made my own charger after warranty ran out)

oh and I have one other z1 with a cracked digitizer from falling 2ft onto rubber floor and someone has given me their "spare digitizers and screens" saying he had given up on sony mobiles. I will see how this goes...

And from my experience best not to use genuine sony magnetic chargers for z1 or z3s even if you buy yhem with the phone it will kill them. Requires power/vol+ restart each time and after donig this a few times phones die.

I am only on here because I am trying to get my last ever sony z3 to work as it is brand new. 

How stupid of me to go with the "Everything Sony" for our household.

İf you keep your expectation about water proofing myth, yes i'm pretty satisfied. Only major problem happens a month ago and fixed couple of days ago with 575.

Sony always tries build high quality units but fails time to time. Main problem with sony is their totally, utterly, non-sense and ultra useless local supports.
Phone has to literally should divide into two pieces by itself(which really happens in z3c's btw) in order to local support "react".

I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience but you should contact Sony and ask to speak with a supervisor and give them feedback about your terrible experience.

uliwolly, naah i'm used to it. I know it is no sony fault at least in my country. Most of the major firms doing same. Main reason is our lack - of consumer laws. But it is suprising me there is a lot people from other countries also complaining about it.
