Z2 Upgrade

Dear Sony,

I would like to know, why, instead of adressing Z1 Problems, you chose to make pointless upgrades no one needs. Many people complained about the rediculous low amount of integrated memory and not being able to move apps to die sd card. Instead of adding more memory or allowing App2SD you pointlessly upgraded Processor and Ram. There was not a single complaint about the Z1 having not enough Ram or chipset speed. Mobile Devices aren´t used for calculating projects anyway, most people try to conserve power. Unless plugged in, the power drain on the go is to much.

I´m pretty sure even in two years there won't be a single app existing that requires the added performance of the Z2 and doesn't run on a Z1

But the 16GB of internal memory, you dont even get, is such a rediculous low amount i can guarantee in 2 years there will be several apps you couldn´t even download on a factory reset 16GB Z2 with maximum amount of free memory. The 11gb of free memory you get is simply a joke in present times and you basically have to move pictures and files and start clearing unused apps immediately.

I don´t know wheather the Sony R&D Center is located on the backside of the moon or the person responsible for the specifications lived in a cave for the past couple of years. If he really thinks eleven gigabyte is enough, I suggest he gets out into the real world, connects to the appstore and starts looking at the size of apps nowadays.

Anyone using his smartphone for more than a basic telephone will run into memory problems and has to delete or move stuff in order to manage the little memory he has within the next 2 years.

Basic Apps even for chatting, regularly require a 2 digit MB amount of memory and more complex apps and many simple games easily hit hundreds of Megabyte. Games in high quality even require memory in the gigabyte range. Games by Gameloft needing 3-4GB for example. A little while ago, Gameloft had a weekend event selling their games for 85 cents each. I bought 5 games and was able to download and install only two because each game needed more than 2GB. These memory requirements are going up in the next years. I don´t know how big the largest app in the Playstore is, but if not already the case, soon there will be apps impossible to use on a Z1/Z2, although it has enough performance, simply because they are to large to download.

The fact of the matter is, Sony released a device able to play movies in FullHD, but not enough memory to save even a single movie in 1080p without heavy compression or buying a SD card seperately.

I would love a Smartphone with enough memory so i don´t have to worry in two years and still have 50% free memory left. I would consider an amount around 128Gb as "enough".

128 GB USB sticks getting cheap, so their memory chips compared to the cost of the phone should't be an issue. Their speed beeing the only disadvantage therefore the time to start the app or load content (mapchange) could increase. The gameplay itself usually issn´t affected.

This Problem can easily be solved, the same way its done in the PC enviroment for ages. You have a small and fast storage like a SSD for the OS and Programms which take advantage of a fast memory and a big and slow HDD for the Data Files and Big Programms.

I can't believe that it´s such a big Problem to integrate a second bigger but slower memory chip or am I the first to suggest that idea?

If thats the case and you decide to incorporate this idea into the Z3, i would appreciate a free sample 😉

If you are using Android KitKat, read this to understand changes to Android:

http://www.androidcentral.com/kitkat-sdcard-changes

Apparently, you should bark at Android for NOT allowing you to save your app to external SD card, not Sony.

app2sd doesn´t work on previous android versions on a xperia z1.. didn´t work in 4.2. which means sony restricted it first..

but anyhow you are missing the point. i don´t even like app2sd because its merely a fix for whole argument, i was talking about above

i want sony to put enough internal memory in their smartphones then we would´t need a memory card or any app2sd helping fix

compare it to the pc world. your basic discounter low end pc gets about 2tb memory, thats approximately 20 times the biggest programs (i dont know of any program needing 100gb memory, but i believe some games take up to 70-80)

twenty times the largest android apps would result in 80-100gb internal storage in the low end... the way it is right now projected in the world of pc would mean you get 200-300gb of storage in a new pc

how long does that last?

basically the smartphone enabled me to leave all the crap behind i was carrying around regulary in the late 90´s (mp3 player, camera, some means to navigate)

the only thing i still carry around all the time is a 64gb USB3.0 stick. i would like to see that gone and integrated as well...

yeah about enough internal memory, if your trying to bring some kind of point across plz elaborate.

the free sample thing was more or less meant as a joke, you may note the smiley

luckily at this point in time i dont really care about 600 bucks, i was even willing to pay a rediculous amount more for the 32gb z1 model, but could´t find anyone having  it in store

wonder if it exists
