I've only had my Z1 for a couple of weeks, but discovered a couple of days ago that to my horror the micro USB flap was missing. No idea how it came off or where it went, but I do know I really miss it!
I've been told that I can return it etc, but really don't want to send my phone off for a couple of weeks so soon, especially when it is working perfectly otherwise.
All I need is a spare cover, but can't find them being sold anywhere online. (doesn't matter if it is no longer anchored with the inner tether piece - just as long as it is closed and sealed - I will use the magnetic charge port day to day anyway).
Any ideas?
Leigh
Think I found a solution!!!
I will see if it arrives, and if it's the right colour, and fits... and waterproof (not sure I will test that immediately though!) - before I get excited.
Contact Sony Xperia Support # 877-797-3742. They will take some info from you and send you out a replacement part free of charge. Takes awhile to get it in the mail but it's free.
I too lost my usb dust cover, must have pulled off in my pocket or something. Phoned support to be told that I need to send the phone in for repair which could take 10 days. To top it all, they won't know if they will repair it for free or if I will need to pay for it until they get the phone.
To quote, "This is due to the casing of the handset needs to be removed for this clip to be put back in place securely. This would need to be done by an authorised engineer to ensure that the handset is put back together and is still water resistant."
As these can be purchased online and simply push into the slot, it seems a waste of resorces and time to send it in for repair. Aparently, the only item they will send out is the sim tray.
Here is a link on how to replace the USB, SIM/SD covers, it is quite simple, I don't where Sony gets off telling people an authorized engineer needs to replace. You do not have to take the phone apart. I called Sony today with the same problem, they wanted to send it off to Texas to replace this one flimsy part for the so called FLAG SHIP PHONE. They could not tell me if it was covered under the warranty or the extended warranty. I have read many stories on different websites about this problem. If they want to keep their US customer base they better start treating the custome better especially when we fork out 400 to 500 dollars for a phone. I have located a few places that sell the replacement covers, however they show 3 separate covers for the USB, SD and SIM. My phone is a Xperia Z1 LTE model C6906 it has only 2 covers one for the USB and one for both the SIM/SD. I am not sure why this is but if anyone out there knows of a place that sells the 2 Cover System please let me know. I had read here that some people got a free replacement without sending the phone in. I guess they got too many calls and complaints. I wouldn't mind paying for it but it is ridiculous that the phone needs to be tied up for 10 days without knowing if I am going to be charged for the flimsy design of this part. I think I will call Customer Service and complain about this, I only called support and got the above explanation on repair. Does anyone know if this problem has been addressed with their 2 new Experia Z2 or Z3?
