Z and ZR

What's the differnce between the 2 with regards to both being waterproof?

the Xperia Z and ZR are "water resistant" NOT waterproof. the Xperia ZR has a camera button so you can take pictures/videos underwater.

Doesn't the Z have this feature as well, as Sony did advertise this on thier website.  I'm looking to get one, but it seems that the Z is the better buy, however I'm also into the vids and pic underwater, so wondering why did Sony come out with the ZR if the Z does the same thing

The main difference between Z model and ZR is the screen:

1.While Z uses 5 inch 1920x1080 pixel screen, the ZR comes with poor 720 x 1280 pixels (hd ready only), 4.55 inches (~323 ppi pixel density instead of 441ppi in Xperia Z)

The other differences are:

2. ZR is just a poorer version of the Z coming with plastic-fantastic material aka Shamesung instead of durable glass used in the Z.

3. ZR is shorter, but fatter.

4. ZR suffers only 8GB internal memory instead of 16GB used in the Z.
5. ZR benefit from dedicated camera button.
6. ZR benefit? from better water resistance IP58 instead of IP57 in the Z.
7. ZR suffers from poor 0,3MPx front facing camera instead of 2,2MPx used in Xperia Z.
8. ZR suffers from poorer design (you do not receive this WOOW! effect when throwing it out among your buddies as with Xperia Z).

9. The battery is almost the same:
Xperia Z - 2330mAh (some sources refers to 2400mAh - I don't know why)
Zperia ZR - 2300mAh

but please take into account that as ZR comes with smaller screen and half the resolution of Xperia Z. It means it should last a bit longer when it comes to day-to-day battery performance so I assume the battery should be a + for ZR.

10. ZR is poorer, but a bit cheaper and comes with a few features that original Z do not have so here's the compromise

So I can get the Z and still do my underwater video like the ZR?

Hmm, I will answer YES, but only when:

1. You will start to record video when you are still not underwater.
2. You will install 3rd party app to use volume button as camera button for video recording or taking pictures underwater.

ZR has a removable battery and extra memory slot uptil 32GB.

Xperia Z since update to 4.2.2 also can handle SD cards up to 64GB (I guess so).

That's another thing, the ZR can't upgrade to 4.2.2 :smileysad:?
