Youtube app did not work, now updates not installing

I have an M4 Aqua Dual with Android Lollipop.

Today, I tried using the YouTube app but it failed to show any videos with "there is a problem playing".

I decided to reinstall YouTube, but when I selected Uninstall for it in Play Store, only the updates were uninstalled.

Now the app acutally works. But attempts to update it fail. The update is downloaded but can not be installed. I tried restarting the phone and deleting cache/data for Play Store and Download Manager. This has not helped.

How can I fix the YouTube app on my phone so it updates and works?

Do you have enough  free internal storage?

@Phy Settings>Storage saoid I have 5.29 GB internal storage available. It also said Apps take up 6.15 GB.

I have run a "transfer to SD card", now 5.67 GB is available and Apps take 6.34 GB (more? why?). I tried installing the YouTube updates but I still got the same issue:

Can't install app. "YouTube" can't be installed. Try again, and if the problem continues, get help troubleshooting. (Error code: -501)

To check if apps install in general I installed a random app (which is a game called Kitten Smooch, because when you don't know what to search for online, you search for cats). It installed successfully and runs.

Boot on safe mode and check if you can update the app

Try repairing it with Sony PC Companion.

Here is my solution that actually worked.
Try searching for the official YouTube apk file and install that. It worked like a charm with my phone. I was always downloading the update but the update failed with a error code -501.

I got the same phone (m4 aqua) and the same problem too. I've tried everything but still nothing happened. Hopefully sony can find a solution soon.

the only thing that works HERE is software repair using PCC.

Once you have uninstalled Youtube updates for what ever reason, it won't reinstall anymore.
