Your thoughts on the ICS update

So we thought we would create this thread for you to share thoughts around the ICS update.

The purpose is to help out other users or readers to make a decision if they are going to update or not.

Please list pros and cons with the update and if you would recommend others to update.

Don’t forget to mention what phone model you have.

Also

Please don’t just say that the update is good or bad. Please share in detail what is good/bad with the update.

We will be monitoring this thread closely and delete any post that does not contribute to the purpose of this thread.

Please do not post single issues. We are happy to help you with them in a new thread.

First impressions Arc S android 4.0.4 update:

1. LED notification (blinking green) still not working for missed calls, google talk messages and so on...

2. touchscreen sometimes still unresponsive (need to touch some button on screen several times before it responds to my touch) (never had such problem on 2.3.4 version)
3. HD video recording was improved, but still has some stuttering (a little) + audio is MONO (1 channel)

4. Dial pad problem solved

5. No lag noticed in homescreen

6. Super fast internet browser

7. Now cannot use my phone for watching movies;(for example .avi 720x304, 2600kbps bitrate stuttering, and .mkv also) hardware acceleration stopped working in video player (DICE player),but this player is compatible with android 4... so I think it's the firmware developers fault...

on 2.3.4. absolutely ALL videos played flawlessly, even HD videos in .mkv

This is my second post. I just now upgraded my Arc S to 4.0.4 from 4.0.3

The problems i have now

LED notification woking for missed calls but NOT WORKING FOR EVERYTHING ELSE (Whatsapp, Messages, FB, etc)

Phone App still takes few secs to load.

Video Camera still skips frames, not bad as in 4.0.3 but still its laggy.

These three problems drived me crazy even in 4.0.3 and here they are after the update also. Come on SONY, I thought it would have been fixed.

Anyway now i have two more problems driving me crazy.

When resizing widgets, the widgets just disappers and only the outline box shows this was not there before in 4.0.3.

Next widgets like gmail and bookmarks dont response to touch anymore.. i am not able to open bookmarks or mails directly from there.

SONY you can't just leave us like this. once you are done updating your other Xperias within next few months try to fix these bugs and release another update.

Well, after using the phone for a longer time, I really think battery life has improved in 4.0.4, that's a good thing.

I guess the ability to disable a few more apps would be welcoming. And I don't think there is a need for contacts, music player and update center to run all the time. Sim contact is also running after each reboot, changing the behavior of these apps would give a few extra mb's of ram for the hungry ics system.

Video playback has surely suffered the biggest drop in performance (apart from gaming). The cpu is struggling to play simple videos now  (formats not supported by phone where software decoding is used) while it could play quite heavier ones on gingerbread smoothly. Hardware decoding on the other hand is making all the video apps laggy while it clearly should perform better than software decoding.

I guess if there will be a reason for me to revert to gingerbread it will be because of video performance. But I still think it's bad software coding rather  than insufficient hardware resources and it can be fixed.

Hi. I upgraded my Arc S to 4.0.4 last night and I noticed few things:

1. LED Notification Light doesn't work when the screen is lock.
2. Camera Image Quality became blurry even the camera used Auto-Focusing.

3. Video Playback skips frames, not like in 4.0.3.

4. Phone Dialer improved a little bit.

but sometimes, it still takes time to open like in 4.0.3.

5. Homescreen transition became smooth.

6. Fast Internet Browsing.
7. Battery Performance improved (I guess?, didn't noticed much.)

I hope Sony reads our problems.

4.0.4 on Ray

Pros

Battery life seems to keep getting better.

Wifi connecting speed and stability has been perfected (plz dont mess it up in future updates!)

Scrolling is very smooth,even with intensive Live wallpapers running.

Con

LED alerts are still broken (again),plzz fix them asap!

Sony you guys make cameras/camcorders,how can you not be able to fix that on you phones?The video lagging in recording(at 720p) and playback is heartbreaking!

4.0.4 update on Xray

Pros:

*Bug fixed(not all)

Cons:

*Calendar widget is still not showing the next event (so What's the use of this widget?)

*Video recording still lags (playback still lags)

*Dialpad is still taking 2-3 seconds to start at first try to open.

*NO notification LIGHT when you recieve a message when screen is off.

=They are removing the basic features of the phone., Seriously? NO NOTIFICATION on LOCKSCREEN? Please SONY, PLEASE!

Pros

ICS stuff

Smoother browser

Cons

Extremly outdated Music player

Some Apps are very gingerbreadish

The UI is not smooth enough

Bring back the lockscren notification pls

Please fix the LED notification

The flashplayer causes the browser to crash frequently

The HD video recording is Mono and not stereo

Advantages

*ram usage is better.UI is much more smoother.no lagging at all.

*game performanse is better.(and when exiting the game home screen opens directly.no lagging here too)

Disadvantages

*LED notification is gone except missed calls.

by the way SONY when we finally get status bar widgets???????

I have just Updated LWW with ICE 4.0.4 ...

First impression

1) Able to connect wifi and Phone call togther with no problem

2) Able to connect google store and downloaded few application with no problem...

3) Contact downloaded via blue tooth and imported without any issue....

4) Able to register my mobile with Sony login id and password....

5) Able to customize Widget i.e. can make size variation...

Other thing wait..Till now no issue at all except it seems battery Drain bit faster..but still not sure as of now....
