I have a long house with thick internal walls so there is a wifi router at each end of the house (one on channel 1, the other on channel 11).
Router one is a BT hub 3 that also acts as DHCP server.
Router two is a Netgear set up as a wireless AP.
SID and password are the same for each router to allow roaming. Both routers are MAC address filtered and WPA2 only.
The routers are connected via ethernet for back haul.
After I have been at one end of the house for around 20 minutes, the Xperia loses internet access but remains connected. All other wifi connections to that router fail. The various devices in that end of the house either disconect and can't reconnect or remain connected but lose internet access. If I reset the wifi connection on the Xperia (turn wifi off, then on again) then all the other devices reconnect.
If the wifi on the Xperia is turned off then the various devices in the house remain reliably connected. The problem started on the day I received my Xperia Z5 so I'm almost 100% sure it is the cause. My previous android phone (HTC Galaxy S5 Mini) did not cause the same problems.
I've had to turn off the Xperia wifi permanently as the only way for people to continue working in the building.
Is this a general fault on Xperia? Something to do with the latest Android versions (BT said this was a known problem with Android)? What can I do to fix it?
On a sillier note - Is it safe to turn on Xperia wifi in public places without it disabling public infrastructure wifi or does this only happen if the Xperia has obtained an IP address from the wifi network?
Interesting thought but no. Hotspot is definitely disabled and the IP address of the phone is showing 192.168.1.xxx which is coming from by BT hub as DHCP.
Other thing: did you check for router's firmware upgrades?
I had to for Cisco E4200, for example, because it started to refuse the 5Ghz connection of my Mac a couple of years ago. It was a problem of negotiation caused by a mix of both sides' firmware and operating system. Very elusive...
