Xperia Z5 Compact Camera Screen Problems

Hello, I have a six months old Z5 compact and recently the camera has been playing up.

1. Switch the rear camera on and the screen appears in either two tone colours or a red hue and often this translates into the end picture, sometime this is worse with lines.

2. The front facing camera and screen work fine.

3. I have tried clearing the cashe and restarting, no luck so far.

Grateful for any advice.

Hi @SimonGore and welcome to the forum!

Is there something covering the rear-camera? Can you see any damage (scratches/cracks) on the backcover/cameralens? If not, are you receiving any error message when you start the camera-app?

Can you re-create this while your phone is rebooted in safe mode?

Nothing covering the camera, no cover, neither are there any scratches on the cameralen.

No error messages at all. When the app is started the camera just shows a screen of red snow and ubale to take a photo.

The front facing camera is fine.

Bought in Feb this year.

I have exactly the same problem. Was told it was a software issue, but find that extremely hard to believe, as the problem seemed to dissappear if I gave a gentle squeeze in the right down corner or tilted the phone. It started acting up taking pictures indoors under electric lighting, but has gotten progressively worse. The screen now often starts up with vertical lines running through or in two tones, mostly green and red, but sometimes green and purple. The camera doesn't focus properly either.
I am extremely disappointed with both this phone and my telephoneprovider, T-mobile, as t mobile hasn't offered any acceptable way to fix this at all, despite me having alerted them to the problem well within their warranty period and asked them to address the problem. The phone started having these problem within 5 months of purchase and I am extremely careful with it, have it in a plastic case and the front covered in gorrillaglas.
After this problem occurred, now there are also lighter areas all if a sudden on the screen around the on/off switch. And the phone overheats really really quickly too, so hot I actually burned myself on the back once, even after removing all covers. Then finally just a couple if weeks ago I noticed the wire of the adapter had spontaneously developed a vertical crack in the outer plastic layer, resulting in the inside layer and copper wires peeking through. I've never bent or rolled up this adaptedcord, as it stays home. This is a serious issue as it's not only a fire hazard but can result in accidents when grabbing the exposed live wires. Really really bad phone and terrible wiring. Highly disappointed, that this happens within 6 months of purchasing this high end phone. Don't BUY
