Xperia Z3 - Half of the screen is black in Camera app since upgrade 6.0.1.

Hi, it's my first time in a forum, I don't know if someone can help me.

I have an Xperia Z3 and it always worked well in the past. Yesterday I upgraded the Sony software to 6.0.1. Since then, when I use the camera, my screen is splitted in two, and half of the screen is black. It does the same, either with the front or back camera, in horizontal or vertical side. If I take a picture, the result is however full screen. I reset the device several times, it still does the same thing. I've attached a screenshot of the splitted screen in camera mode.

Does anybody has the same problem? It is easy to fix?

Best regards.

@AGagnon,

Welcome to the community.

I am sorry this has happened. Slightly_frowning_Face Please do try the software repair that @uliwooly has suggested, as it does seem like a software fault to me. If that does not work, you'll need to contact your Local support team to arrange a repair.

Thanks uliwooly and CameronT for the reply. I downloaded XC and for the moment I'm trying to access Software Repair (before trying the Software update) but got this message (see below) and i'm stuck. In the mean time, I have downloaded a third party app (UCam) from Google Play and the camera works again, no more half screen. But only with a third party app, the main one from Sony still doesn't work properly. Ill do my best to try to make the Software Repair works.

Best regards.Screen Shot 2016-10-06 at 12.02.25.png

@AGagnon,

If it's working with another app then the app itself will likely be the issue.

The error you are getting on XC could be due to a firewall or antivirus program. You can add an exception to it if you know how, or temporarily disable it to allow the connection through.

CameronT,

I was using my computer at work so it might be a firewall and I can't disable it. I can't use my computer at home as it's an old PowerBook G4 and it doesn't support XC that would means I'll have to send my phone to repair but can't afford to be a couple of weeks without a phone. So thanks for the information. At least my phone didn't blow up like the new Samsung, but what is it was working perfectly before the upgrade. I still love Sony but I'm wondering why send upgrades if its to make it worst. Is this problem happened only to my phone or all the Z3? 😞

Funny that two words were "bleeped" in my reply. They weren't mean at all. 😞

Yesterday I downloaded an application (TrackR) on my phone from Google Play.

A message appeared when I tried to use that app : "Screen Overlay Detected".

I went to the Apps section > Settings > Draw over other apps
I closed individually all applications that were there.

This morning my the Sony camera app is working back as normal.

I don't know if it's related.
