Xperia Z3 Dual Water Damage

Few days back I took my Z3 Dual to swimming pool making sure that all the flaps are properly closed. Somehow water went inside and the device restarted couple of times. Finally it was shut down. I tried starting it but it was giving me 1 long vibration and 3 or 4 short vibration and the device was not turning on.

I took it out and dried it with a hair dryer. Same night I tried turning it on again but this time the phone was giving no response. Next day I submmited my phone under warranty but they said as it is water damaged so I will have to pay for it and they will replace the board of the phone. I dont have any issue in paying them to repair but as they were changing the board so I will loose all my data and contacts in the phone. Unfortunatly I was not maintaing any backup online or offline.

I refused them to repair and tried local mobile shops if they can somehow without replacing the board manage to repair the phone, but after some investigation they told me that it cannot be repaired.

I bring it back open the back cover and analyzed the circuit myself. It seems like the board itself is in perfect shape and no sign of water over it. There are few chips at the bottom of the phone which has sign of water and also it seems they burn. I tried searching for circuit diagrams for z3 dual but was not able to find one.

Now when I try to turn on the phone it is giving me no response but when I connect the phone with my laptop the red led at the top starts blinking and my laptop indicates that there is an unknown USB device connected. I can post or send pictures of my device if required.

The purpose of writing this post is to know if someone gone through the same situation and was able to repair it? Or if anyone can help me in repairing or replacing the defected items or if somehow if i can manage to get all my data from the phone.

I will be really greatefull as I have some valuable data and contacts saved inside the phone.

@salmanadil

I'm sorry to hear this, you should contact your local Xperia care and request a vacuum test but as far as recovering your data it's not going to be possible.

Yeah post some pictures of the device inside.

As you already opened the back glass , the best thing to do is to put it in a bowl of rice and let it be for there for few days... a week would be great!

Although opening the back cover wasn't very smart , because you said that you checked if every flap is closed . If they were you could send it to SONY and request a vacuum test , so if the device was faulty you could get a free replacment.  But the cover is opened so i dont think they will do anything about it.

It seems I was a bit lucky.

I unassembled my last night completely then connected only battery mother board and button controls leaving all other components connectors disconnected. Then I connect it through USB to my PC. Luckily my PC detected the phone and I was able to see my internal storage and also PC Companion was able to detect the phone so I took backup of everything from my phone :).

Although it seems wiered to me as whenever I connect my phone to PC in similar state (all internal devices disconnected) it promptly detect my phone.

Later on I cleaned all corrision and connected all internal hardware (Camera, speaker, audio jack, buttons, screen, vibrator) and tried to turn it on but it was not showing anything. But my PC was still detecting my phone. Although when I press volume up down key or power key I wont hear any sound which we usually hear while locking unlocking or changing the volume. So it was giving me an impression that my phone OS is not working properly.

As I already took backup so I reseted my phone through PC Companion, which re install the OS and removes everything from the phone. After completing the process when I started my phone I heard welcome sound (no display) then after few minutes when I tried pressing volume key up down I can hear volume changing sounds.

I believe my phone will be on welcome screen as I reset the OS. And all buttons are responding properly now. Except I am not able to get display and also vibration is not working.

Seems like the only problem remaining now is screen and vibrator.
