Hello,
I am a Xperia Z3 owner from India. a couple of days back the phone slipped from my grasp and now the back of the phone is completely shattered. The front got affected too but thankfully I had a tempered glass installed. It stings my heart everytime I look at the phone, especially the back. And so I contacted the local Xperia support, but then came the surprise. They told me that the back of such phones cannot be replaced and that I'd have to pay 50% of the handset's price to get a refurbished phone. The problem is that I personally cannot afford that amount at this point of time. So, I searched my way through the web regarding replacement parts and procedures and came to know that it is completely possible to replace the back. Therefore my question is, why did the support personnel tell me about a complete replacement for the phone? The phone is still working flawlessly by the way. I want her(the phone) to be back to what she used to be. What am I supposed to do now? Any help regarding this would mean alot.
Did they inspected your phone? replacing the back panel it's quite simple, you can buy it online and also a double sided tape and a heat gum.
What I think is since the back panel is shattered, perhaps the phone got bent or other components got damaged as well.
Thanks a lot for getting back to me. The thing is that they inspected the phone for about 2 secs. But once they saw the back they were like the phone needs to be replaced and its against their company's policy to repair such handsets. The handset didn't bend as far as I can see. I just don't get it. Why can't they do it! Baffles me to be honest. What do you suggest? Should I do it myself? Are there any potential risks if I do so? And please, would you be kind enough to share a few links where I can purchase the back panel from since most of the overseas platforms don't ship to India. I got the copper variant.
I don't know of any places that might ship to india, but you can check amazon and/or ebay
Thank You. I've ordered one back panel with adhesive from ebay. Lets hope everything falls in the right place.
