Xperia Z2 Earpiece crackling sound

I purchased my Xperia z2 one week ago and i have just started noticing some cracking sound from the earpiece when making phone calls. I have tried a few options but all to no avail.

1. Tried a different network provider. Still the same
2. Installed soundabout and played music from the earpiece instead of loudspeaker and it sounded just fine. So this seems like an issue with phone calls only
2. Tried different equaliser options from call settings but no difference.

The sound i am talking about sounds like a broken speaker but i am pretty convinced the speaker isn't broken as i played music through the earpiece speaker and it sounded fine. Did anyone else experience the same issue and how did you fix it?

@jaydee12t

That's network noise

@uliwooly thank you but this isn't network noise. Unless you are suggesting that network noise is more audible on the z2 than other phones. I have got other phones and they sound just fine. I previously used Xperia z ultra and i never had any issue like this

@jaydee12t

How old is the SIM card? does this happen at a specific location or in general?

@uliwooly Just 1 year old. I have tried other sim cards, all the same. Inserted the sim card in a different phone and call quality sounded okay

Try booting on safe mode and check if you are still hearing a crackingsound.

@uliwooly Didn't help but thanks for trying to help out. Guess may just have to get use to the sound and enjoy the phone.

What didn't worked?

Just wondering, what if you disable wifi, nfc, bluetooth and data and place a call. you could boot on safe mode as suggested above and disable everything and report back.
