After a year (just after warranty) USB has stopped connecting to laptop.
I've tried different ports and a different Sony cable and still doesn't work.
Thanks for you help.

My my Z1 does not
Are you able to charge your phone through a wall charger?
Are you able to charge the phone while connected to a computer ?
Yes I can charge the phone through wall charger.
As for the initial troubleshooting suggestions..the results as follows..
Most Xperia phones have two USB connection modes. MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) and MSC (Mass Storage Device Class). You can switch between these modes here; Settings > Xperia > Connectivity.
1. In MSC mode ordinary mass storage drivers will be used, so the MSC mode works on most systems. Mac, Linux or PC.
RESULT - DID NOT WORK
2. If you experience problems in MSC mode please check that a SD card is inserted in the SD card slot in the phone.
RESULT - SD CARD INSERTED, STILL CAN’T CONNECT
3. If you still can't access your SD card on your computer you should check your device manager and that proper mass storage driver have been applied. You can access the device manager by right clinking on "My computer" or "Computer" depending on Win OS version.
RESULT - WHAT IS THE “PROPER MASS STORATE DRIVER”??
4. If you can't get MTP connection you should first make sure that PC Companion and/or Windows Media Player (Latest version, Win XP only) is installed on your PC.
RESULT- DOWNLOAD COMPLETED, STILL NO CONNECTION
5. If your Xperia phone is running on Android Gingerbread you can try to clear data for the application called MTPapp. Found here in your phone; Settings > Applications > Manage applications > All > MTPapp > Clear data. RESULT -
DID NOT WORK, STILL CAN NOT CONNECT, NOW DON’T EVEN GET ERROR MESSSAGE
6. You can also try to enable or disable the USB debug option found under Development settings in the phone.
RESULT - CAN NOT FIND THIS OPTION ON PHONE
7. If your phone gets detected as another device such as PTP instead of MTP, try the following. (Win XP only)
RESULT - NOT APPLICABLE
Any more suggestions welcome..
The error message has now restored.
Under Device Manager...USB serials......Unknown Device shows up when I connect
When I attempt to update the driver, ..the result as follows (already the latest driver)
What if you restart your PC > update the latest JAVA > disable the firewall and antivirus and it doesn't hurt to instal PCC on the computer.
