I noticed that Sony have announced new firmware here (2.257) on 15th Oct.

Can anyone at Sony confirm whether this firmware addresses the issues expressed in this thread and perhaps share a more comprehensive and detailed list of what's changed?

The announcement only indicates the following improvements:

  • Improved camera functionality and stability
  • Optimized display calibration
  • Better battery life
  • Faster email sync, display and download
  • Smoother user experience, with performance tuning

Has anyone tried this 2.257 update yet?

Prjakate in my house we own 2x Xperia Z1 and we haven't had that problem.

Take it to a Sony Repair Center and have it fixed.

Guys, it seems that in most cases enabling "optimized backlight" solves the black screen / SOD issue, so those who didn't get yet the latest .257 update (afaik it fixes this by some workaround, but fixes) should do this and problem should be gone.

I think I've posted this at least 3x times on this thread

do not turn on auto brightness when the brightness adjusting control in settings is at the minimum this will redult in the auto brightness adjust the brightness way too dark - black screen

Also in the new firmware release Sony have removed the option for optomised backlight - it is now enabled and cannot be turned off in settings - this fixes the slow boot up problem

does this thread need to continue, it just seems like pages and pages of the same thing over and over
