Xperia z water damaged

My ports were closed and everything was perfect bt I went to rain for just 5 mins and it was very light but when I lighted my phone up the water went inside and when I visited service centre they said we'll not repair and for replacement pay 80% that means 32000 at least
WTF man is it really a water resistant, and if u dnt cover it under waranty then at least should've told at the time of purchase
Now at least tell how to dry it off and turn the pink indicator to white

always been a sony fan and bought the xperia z on contract. its only just over a year old but recently started crashing, now it just turns itself off. i've googled various troubleshooting and things to check and i notice my litmus strip has turned pink. I've never tried out its underwater capabilities and if it is water damaged the only way i can think of is because the charger seal does not seem as tightly fitting as the sd card cover or earphone cover. I've just started a repair option however i think 21.29 to send it back if its not covered by warranty is a bit steep so i'm already not impressed. very misleading from sony on a phones capabilities. never been a samsung fan nor an iphone but definately wont be a returning sony customer after this. you don't expect a phone of this price to last little over one year

I have an update for my story, a positive outcome!!! i nearly fell over as i opened the parcel and read the repair service detail sheet : "Your mobile phone has been replaced with a factory tested warranty replacement unit. The balance of you warranty continues from the original handset purchase date." 12 business days (19 days) later and without even acknowledging they'd recieved it they sent a replacement. Im very relieved and very, very suprised about this, of course I cant complain, even if it had taken a full month I'd be happy with the result. I guess what i want to say is most of the stories on this particular forum are negative and i totally sympathise with all of you (thought I was going to be one too) but somewhere along the line someone has done the right thing and to you, Sir, I say thanks. You

Sorry to hear this but you need to either return your device to the place of purchase or contact Xperia care http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/

Hi,

my xperia z stopped working the other week. While scolling through the new pages the phone just shut down. It did nt restart. I researched and performed the repair through the sony companion and all the other options i could find on hte internet. after a few goes i got it running again after 12 hrs it crashed again. another crack of the repair and the phone came good again for another 24hrs before crashing again. this time the repair did nt work and the phone just continued to loop through the start up. occasionlly it would get to the start up screen then crash again.

After taking back for warranty the response was water damage and it isnt covered. the phone has never seen water and the only indicator showing any signs of water was the headphone jack, which i expect would of occured from sweaty hands during exercise. the other 2 indicators are still fine. i would not expect water damage cause the phone to attempt to start or work then not and would expect water damage would stop the phone working all together.

Very disappointed with the reponse and sony have excepted there is an issue with the headphone jack as they changed the next model.

Same here. Feeling a bit let down, last night I was taking pictures of my goldfish at home, so was double sure everything was closed and tight as it should be... barely a minute later the screen started jumping around and it stopped working altogether. Its dried out a bit overnight but now no touch screen (althrough the screen turns on)

Just submitted a warrenty claim so will see how well Sony respond to this, Phone is barely a month old and otherwise a brilliant piece of kit, Phone bought soley for the waterproof and dust ingress as i'm a a semi professional photographer and my iPhone lens got too dusty, too quickly for me to buy another.
