Hello Sony
and everyone else !
I got me Xperia Z Ultra few weeks ago & for some days now i have a problem (nightmare actually) with the phone display.
Might be related to last android version update. I need pres multiple times the power button so that display it light on, until then there is just a fade light with some color stripes to (looks like backlight is working & sadly no other phone to take some pictures or record this).
I was write to support & was check internet to, no solution for me yet & is kinda bad because i use it at work a lot and i don't have another one. Since i believe is related to last Android update, which say "14.6.A.1.236" that is have last bugg fixes and problems. Well, ironically, for me this is a nightmare and i just can wait for a quick hot.fix to your Android version please ?!
I received a recommendation from someone, from Sony on FB, suggested me to do this:
"Hi, We would recommend that you repair the phone software. Open PC Companion, select “Support Zone " and then "Software Update". Do not connect the phone to the PC yet. The program will say that there is no phone connected and will ask you to connect but disregard that and instead choose the option to "Repair Phone". Then follow the instructions until it finishes updating the phone."
Was a pain to do it because i had to do backups to, but i did it and now next day the problem is still there. I decided to do it again (2nd time maybe with luck) & same thing right few minutes after was completed. I'm living with this annoying problem for almost a week now, the "another" next day, after getting home from work, was do twice "factory data reset". After each one it happened again. The interval between the 2 factory resets was ~ 1 hour. Problem with this factory reset is that the Android last updated version is still there, i was believe that is resetting to the version it had when it was produced but it hasn't
Meanwhile i decided to login here & write down my problem.
I found out over internet this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GwSVfSO4Vw&index=11&list=WL
From what i was read arround over internet about this it was a software problem. Sad part is that i need wait for the hot fix maybe, which can take to long maybe Sony ?!
I wasn't drop the phone or hold it in water, rain, etc.. i take care of my things because i do not afford swap them at the 1st problem encountered.
So, after 2 x repairs & 2 x factory factory resets the problem with the display is still there, i'm getting really annoyed by this, i lost alot of time with this display issue (which it should not happen with a new product, but it does), i understand that this things can happen.. but this is to much, specially when it happened before to other users to. I believe that Sony have one of the best community out there (some of us are real fans) so more attention to details could help alot, learn from history past problems and continue update Xperia phones.
This is for now, I have to apologies for my "weird" english (is not my main language, i am from Romania) & right now will do a 3rd factory reset after the battery gets full 100%.
Thank you & i wait a solution, maybe a hot fix for the android to!

Hi Tzunny,
Welcome to the community.
I'm sorry to hear about your experience with your phone. If the software repair hasn't resolved this issue it might be worth contacting your local sony support to arrange for the device to be looked at by a repair agent using the link in my signature.
Hello, thank you for suggestion but was hope more than a basic reply.
I already contacted them and my tickets (2) are on standby.. i think, since no answer yet, was do it days ago.
Did the 3rd factory reset today and i don't understand why the last version of Android is still there, i don't get it, with factory reset you don't get back the Android version which the smartphone had it when i bought it ?! I think it was a 4.2 version, if i remember right.
I wait this days to see if i get any answer from locals (are in another city than mine), also the store from where i bought it.. it doesn't have it anymore on sale. I will update this thread when i get a clear answer, meanwhile do you guys have any idea when is the next Android update/patch ? This Lollipop is a real pain with my phone & was read on internet that other peoples have problems to with this. It worked everything just fine until i updated 1 week ago, it's really sad that a update can do such a inconvenience. I never had this kind of issues never in last years, i had a Samsung Galaxy S3 & HTC One & i wanted to swap to Sony.. and kinda already regret it, but this phone took my eyes so i really wanted it.
Thank you again & keep in touch!
The software repair doesn't revert the device to a previous version. It reinstalls the current version of the operating system that is installed on the device. You can't really go back to a previous version of Android easily, and doing so voids your warranty so I advise against it.
As the update is customised by multiple parties before being released it may take some time before it's released for your handset. For further information regarding the approval process please see here.
I don't know if you've done it yet, but can you test if the issue is persisting while your phone is in safe mode?
Hello again Cameron, finally i got answer from local Sony Romania.
So you can't go back to the Android version the phone had when was produced, that i wasn't know & i wasn't understand why is not possible, because i am kinda sure it could fix my issue or at least test this method to.
I am confused & i don't really wanna to bring it to a service to open my phone because i believe it will lose the waterproof aspect if i'm correct !? Is annoying this issue & i wanna see if it will get fixed with Marshmallow release next year, if it doesn't then is hardware problem and must be opened i believe; i was read more about this kind of screen LCD issues this days so i guess the worst part is to replace the display with a new one.. but again with price of losing waterproof ?!
I will try today your suggestion, the Safe Mode, and use it in this mode whole day and see if same thing happen. Safe Mode is related to some hardware settings changes to ? Like power that display is getting, looks like is need time to warm up before show something else on screen than backlight & stripes. There are times when i pres power button 2-5 times until display is full on and times when 10+, also when i get a call i can't see who is calling.
I'll be back tomorow with the update after safe mode use.
Thank you !
Safe mode starts your phone with only the pre-installed applications on your device. It's useful for testing if the issue is caused by an application conflict.
Generally, if your device is repaired by an authorised Sony repair agent your device will still be waterproof after the repair, but you might want to double check this with your local Sony service centre to confirm that.
Did/used Safe Mode almost whole day, no change, is not that & is nothing related to applications conflicts because i guess if applications was the cause of issue here then problem was fixed after one of the 3 x Factory Resets i did last days.
Waiting another answer from the store & service local support, i have no choice but just to wait for next Android update (hurry up with that pls take forever, is just another OS
) & if then no fix either to i need a replacement since changing the display require to lose waterproof option if they open my phone (at least this i was read around). I tend to believe that can be something hardware to, something triggered a imperfect contact or something because display take to long to warm up or is not receive enough power from 1st couple attempts to turn on 100%. In weekend maybe i find someone to help me to capture/record on video this display problem.
Take care !
I guess you have two options at this point. You can wait and see if your an update releases that fixes this issue, or you can arrange for your device to be looked at physically with your local Sony support team. I'm sorry there's no easy fix for you.
