I decided to buy an experia u because i saw in sony's webpage that it was upgradable to android 4.0. After upgrading, wifi became to work poorly. I've tried to solve this problem with my service provider, TMN, and Phonetech, but instead of solving the wifi problem, the soluction encountered was downgrade to android 2.3. I do no agree with this solution. Is it possible to solve this problem, or i'll continue to be disappointed with sony.

Have you tried connecting to differnet Wi-Fi networks? Do you have mobile internet from your service provider on your phone? and if so, does it work properly?
hello.
Thanks for answering. But, the problem is only with wi-fi.
After being connected to a wifi network, after a few minutes the internet stops working. The service is locked, and the only way to regain the wifi working again is to disconnect and reconnect the cellphone.
With android 2.3 it does not.
This might be some kind of software problem. Just to confirm if this is the case go ahead and run the Repair Option on PC Companion which will re-install the software on your phone.
I did the repair option. But after a while the same happened again.
This issue is far from being solved. It was reported in other forums. For some reason, in some wi-fi environments, the phone starts a process called "wpa_supplicant", that simply cannot be stoped and drains all the battery in a question of hours. To check if this is your case go to "Developer settings" and activate the "Show CPU use" (I'm not sure this is the right spelling, my phone is not in english) checkbox. The wpa_supplicant task will appear on top of the list, unmovable, unstopable unless you reboot the phone.
So far I have been unable to solve the problem. If anybody knows a fix or a workaround and let me know I would be grateful (of course I don't mean Sony, I know they don't care about us)
Unfortunately, like you, I am very disappointed with Sony, which to me was a reference of quality. Defects in equipment may always be, but we must take them and resolve them ASAP.
Already took the phone twice to repair. At first it was with the company that sold me the equipment locked to network TMN Portugal. The solution they found was to downgrade to 2.3. The second time, the equipment was "repaired" in phonetech company, which is recommended by Sony. The solution was the same, the Downgrade.
By phone, I contacted Sony to ask for permanent resolution of the situation, which would put it to work with Android 4. I was amazed at the response they gave me. They told me that the firmware from Sony works well, but what was placed by Provider Mobile TMN is a problem that should have, and that sony is not responsible for it.
I'm very disappointed, and I'm thinking never buy anything from Sony.
Yes man1ac, I was so feed up of this problem that even before reading your message above I found this tread and applied the method you recommended. It worked for me and now I'm able to connect to all my wi-fi's on and off without any problem. Thank you very, very much.
100% agree. I don't understand why Sony is not supporting us. In this case we are talking about a middle range smartphone, but imagine you get a similar problem in a >600$ brute like the Xperia Z. What do we do? Downgrading to GB? Are they kidding? You bet this is my last Xperia...
BTW... the solution recommended by man1ac worked for me. It requires to root the phone but it is rather simple.
