I bought the Xperia U a couple of weeks ago, it was fine at first but recently it occasionally started saying the sim wasn't inserted and would restart automatically, sometimes several times in a row. I had to re-insert the sim several times and now no matter what it says the sim isn't inserted, making the phone useless. I've tried it with 3 different sims, all new and here is no difference, its doesn't pick up the sim. I've seen a few people with similar problems but not to this extent. This sim is definately inserted right. Help please?
I also meant to say the sim sticks out quite alot when inserted meaning the back cover doesn't really fit on to the phone properly. Is it the same on every phone?
Never faced anything like that, check if the SIM is being inserted in the correct orientation. Take to Sony Service Centre if possible.
It's definately in the correct orientation, think i will have to take it to a service station.
just get a new SIM card, most likely that's the issue

As i said i have already tired it with 3 sims, all of them new
then the only option is to take it to a sony repair center

The sim card slot has a spring mechanism like the memory card, you need to push it further inside till it clicks so that it may not stick out, if you need to stick it out push it again inside and it will spring back.
Update, I got a new xperia u from my network and same problem again. So i tried inserting the sim with the metallic strip facing upwards (the opposite of what the phone tell you to do) and viola its working however the sim doesn't seem as secure as it was. In short has anyone else had anything similar or am i just being an idiot? lol It does say on phone that the metallic strip should be facing down and not up.
