Soooo... here's the deal. I can safely and with full conviction say that I ABSOLUTELY HATE the stupid MTP mode that seems to be part of recent Android versions. The damn thing won't update the file/folder index until I reboot the Android device leaving me with invisible folders while browsing the phone on my PC (unless I want to go through the hassle of restarting Android every time I want to transfer a file). Not to mention the file transfer rates are painfully slow.
I noticed that there's an option that allows to connect SD card in mass storage mode but it says that internal phone memory can't be accessed using this method. My question is: is there some way to force mass storage mode for internal phone memory like there is for SD card? I would be SO happy if I could wave this abomination of a file transfer mode (aka MTP) goodbye.
If the above is not possible: is there a way to trigger file/folder index update without rebooting Android?
Use Mass storage mode to transfer files which aren't supported via Media mode.
Internal isn't accessible via Mass storage mode. If possible, copy the files to SD card via Mass storage and then transfer it to Internal via File explorer on Tipo.
Generally avoid storing files in Internal storage. Keep it free for Apps and data. Class 4 SD card is good for media(music, videos) etc.
File transfer speed may be low in Media mode as Sony Media GO tries to optimise the content like Videos for Tipo. So use Mass storage mode to transfer that kind of unsupported files.

Fair enough... but it still doesn't explain why I'm forced to reboot Android every time I want the folder index to update. Why doesn't it reflect changes as they are made? Slow transfer rates I can live with but Android and PC reporting different folder structures? How's this acceptable?
Say I wanna do a backup of the contents in internal memory... What assurance do I have that the files I copied actually reflect what's stored in the phone? Because to me it seems like a straight way to file corruption. I understand that this might be an Android limitation but I just fail to see how MTP is enough of an improvement for Google to decide to start phasing mass storage mode out.
Instead of rebooting phone you can Unmount and Mount SD card through Storage settings.
Sony should have shown notification for Media scanning when USB is unplugged or SD is re-mounted.

Well, I can access both Internal Storage and External SD in MTP mode...
I run Windows 8 and have Sony PC companion installed (Never use it though!)
If you wanna access Internal Storage and External SD via MSC mode, you might wanna try this app......Note: Phone needs to be rooted......Well, I never gave it a try cause I never felt the need to.
GOOD LUCK!
