Xperia shuts off

My Xperia's been working great for years until recently it just turned off when entering stand by mode [I assume]

- I can turn it on only after taking battery out and putting it back again, it's fine until the screen dims

- it works fine while plugged to the PC

- WIFI doesn't work anymore, e.g. it doesn't detect home network

- I hadn't installed any new software/updates before the problem

- I tried repair using PC companion but it says that no repairs are available for my phone. A the same time the software is up to date

- I tried restarting in the safe mode but I don't know how to start the safe mode [pressing on and volume up buttons together doesn't seem to work]

Is it a battery issue? Any suggestions'd be appreciated, I'm very fond of my phone and would hate to get rid of it Slightly_smiling_Face

I suggest that you try to repair the phone software using PC Companion. - not the software update. Support Zone -> Update phone software -> Repair phone software

Before repairing your device you may want to backup your information first. Check out this topic for more information on how to.
How to backup?

If the issue should still remain I think that this needs to be examined and fixed at a repair center. For more information about how to submit your phone for repair and where, contact your local support team.

Hello,

thank you for the reply. I did try the PC companion repair too, apologies for not being clear; also reset the factory settings, which didn't help. Phone's been running without a SIM card so it's not an issue either.

The link you posted to the local supprt team doesn't give me anything either...

If software repair doesn't work you should send in the phone to a service center. For information on how to find your closest service center you should contact the local support in your region.

So I tried the repair using PC companion and it fails as: your IP address is not allowed to update/repair phone. Sony update engine failure'

I guess it's related to the fact that the phone was bought in Europe.

Any ideas?
