Xperia S problems connecting to PC

Hi

I have recently upgraded to a Xperia S and i am regretting the upgrade i carnt connect my phone to my windows xp laptop. I see a lot of people have had this problem but the advice they get is try a different port or restart the phone and pc but this is something simple people try before contacting you.

When i connect my xperia s to my laptop the phone noes its connected to the pc but nothing happens on the laptop or on the sony software. I no the usb is connect because the phone is charging. When i do a manually search it makes me wait for 10 min and then tells me to restart my phone and try again. i have tired the phone in a windows 7 pc aswell and the same thing happens. I am really stuck and it is really annoying that theres no other way to put large files on my device :-@ . Any help is appreciated Thank you

Check if clearing data for the Mtpapp could make any difference.

Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage applications > All > Mtpapp.

If not I think that you would have to try repairing the phone software via PC Companion.

I am having the same issue. I can't seem to connect. Especially after updating the Sony PC Companion to the latest version. Before I updated to v2.10.053, i was able to connect and transfer files & backup the device. Now after updating, the PC Companion is not detecting my device. Keep asking me to reboot my phone and try again. I've already tried rebooting my phone and my PC too. Still the same. I know there's nothing wrong with the USB drive bcos my phone is getting charged when I connect it to the USB port. I've also checked the connection settings and it is by default set to MTP. Anyway, on this phone, that's the only option available. No other options to select. Right now, I'm trying to uninstall and reinstall the Sony PC Companion. Not sure if it's gonna help but just trying my luck. What do you I do next if this doesn't work?

Hi Johan i have tried the clearing data it is helpful as the phone now comes up on my pc up when i go to my computer > xperia s > then it is blank. but this is only after the first time i clean the Mtpapp data. If i try it again it keeps me waiting saying Phone preparation "please wait for your phone to connect to your computer. This can take several minutes, especially if you have a lot of content on your phone." Then nothing happens even after 30 minutes. Any advice on what to do next Johan?

Did you try using another USB cable?

Do you have a lot of files or large files stored on the phone? I don't know if it could have anything to do with that but you could try to clear the internal storage then connect the phone again. Maybe it's something stored on the internal storage that causes this problem.

I have the same problem. Cleaning the data was helpful, but now I can't see any of the files on the phone in the windows explorer. If I go to my computer > xperia s > there's only an empty window. If I select the Xperia S and choose properties on the computer it doesn't give me any information on storage space or anything...

Any help is appreciated, thank you!

same problem with 2close4comfort, already sick with looking for a resolution, its totally ridiculous sony cant manage this simple but important problem well.

please could someone from sony just explain to me how should I use media go without phone being regonized?

How should I back up everything without using PCC?

can't believe I have spent so much time to find a resolution( I believe I am not the only one ), now this problem still remain unsolved.
