Hello, i bought the xperia S a few days ago, and i have noticed that the battery goes down REALLY fast. At first i thought that mabye i was just
getting paranoid, but when i tried to watch a 2 hour long HD (720p) movie, it didnt even last that!! It was charged at 100%. Can someone tell me what video playback time you are getting, and what battery life SHOULD i be getting, because this is ridiculously bad.
Thanks!
BTW it lasted about 1 hour 50 min of the video.
Check what is consuming the battery. is it really the video or other apps. Go to settings>power management>battery and it will list all apps that consumed the battery with details
I might not be too precise but, i remember watching around 3 to 4 hours video (HD) playback.
I've run a battery stress test on a fully charged battery down to 17% and that took 1hr 50mins on an XPERIA LT26i
That's with screen and CPU at 100%.
So I would suggest a 2hr movie could be played with ample time left over.
I have found Google Play GSam Battery Monitor very good at identifying processes/applications with high resource usage, Operationally it has a low resource threshold when monitoring.
Disable as many processes as you can that you don't use in settings->apps.
Keep Bluetooth, GPS, WiFi and 3G data turned off when not in use.
Have screen timeout set to a low value.
If the phone is new it needs a few charges to 'settle' it to it's operational battery capacity.
On the first few(4) charges keep it on the charger for 8-12 hours.
Use the phone until the battery is getting low again ~10% and charge again for 8-12 hours.
Never let a battery deplete as this is not recommended by battery manufacturers.
I have root access on my XPERIA LT26i and mostly get over one day of use.
My phone is normally 80% in deep sleep and under-clocked when the screen is off.
With JB 6.2.B.0.200 I charged it to 100% and then left it for one day(24hrs) without using it and it only used 9% of the battery, Theoretically that'd give you a standby of over 10 days.
If I uninstalled WhatsApp I'd get an even better battery life.
What is consuming the most battery is the screen, its at a massive 65% right now, and normally at 50-60%. Is that normal? All other stuff is low.
Also while playing the movie i had bittorrent downloading something in the background. I replayed the movie and left it and it managed to play it twice from 100%. A total of 4 hours and a half (brightness on about 4 in mx player)
So that brings me back to my question, should i take it back or is it normal?
i left it standby for about 8 hours and lost 7 percent. Im not sure if i have a normal unit or not. I had wifi ON but i had the battery saveing option that turns if off after a while.
7 percent over 8 hours sounds about right for a stock XPERIA LT26i with no root access and possibly running all default applications including FB, mail and Twitter and etc.
If you run the following Play Store battery test app and get approx 1hr 50mins or greater at the end of the test you have nothing to worry about.
I have tested this with two different 1700mAh batteries and the results were almost identical.
The phone does get hot during the test and I have seen temperatures of up to 43C, so run the test in the coolest location you can find.
Hello, i left it in standby for 8hours again and lost about 3%. This time i directly disabled wifi though.T
3% is Much better but far from thr 450 standby time sony claims. I also have JB installed, did ICS have better battery life or has the bug about battery life in jely bean been fixed?
Also thanks for you input, much appreciated, i will run the test and see
I would give my right testicle for 30% battery loss in 8 hours, let alone 3% - for that I'd donate both of them. The battery life was ok under ICS but under Jelly Bean it's a real killer. I've reset my phone since upgrading to Jelly Bean which seems to fix the massive battery drain for most people and it's improved it but it's still pretty bad. Yours sounds great for an Xperia S!
It's a great phone by the way, it's just that the Jelly Bean update is causing issues for a lot of people.
I ran the tests and got a score of 501. It lasted for 3 hours (the test stopped at 12 percent)I
What stranges me is it shows to be higher score than S2, which was my last phone, and i never had battery issues. I think it is the battery percentage that makes me paranoid, watching it go down like that...Is there a way to turn it off?
Thanks a million :smileyhappy:!
