Xperia S internal storage memory issue

Screenshot_2013-05-06-17-52-52.png

Dear All,

This is a snapshot of my phone internal memory distribution. If you add up the space utilized by Apps, Pictures/Videos, Audio, Downloads then it comes to around 5.3 GB. And when you subtract this from total space i.e. 25.8 GB - 5.3 GB = 20.5 GB. However, the space available shown is just 8.47 GB. Where did the rest of memory space (approx 12GB) go?????

Would really appreciate if anyone can help me out.

Thanks people....

Hi Samuel,

Thanks for your prompt reply. I have gone through the link u sent & understand that some part of memory is used by Android internal processes hence the memory in use & available won't match. A difference of 1 or 2 gb is understandable. But 12 GB??? thats hard to believe. Android can't be using 12 GB memory for its internal use.

Also it has slowed down my phone considerably. Phone was working great in Gingerbread. Only when I upgraded to ICS it started to slow down & lag.

I have tried freeing up memory removing applications & services, however this has not helped much.

Please let me know what else I can do.

delete all the sms, mms and call logs in your phone, that will speed things up

also

uninstall mcafee, you don't need an antivirus, uninstall any antivirus, task manager, taskiller, ram apps, battery apps > restart your phone and check again

Thanks for the info mate. I have deleted the call logs & unimportant messages. Restarted the phone as well. No visible difference in speed. When i hit the phone button, it still takes about 2-3 seconds for the dialer pad to show up.

Will try the repair option at night.

But i fail to understand where did my 12GB of memory go??? As available shown is only around 8 GB, will I be able to store only 8 GB?

Would appreciate if you guys can help me out understanding this.

Thanks

backup all your sms/mms and then delete them all.

did you deleted all your pictures, videos and music? do you have any heavy games ?

I already did that....earlier the photos & videos were occupying 8 GB space...now it occupies only 4 GB. I have only 1 heavy game installed....GT by gameloft. its a normal android car racing game occupying about 350 MB space. Inspite of removing a lot of stuff....the space available has not budged.

I am in process of backing up entire content to see if available space, as shown in snapshot, increases.

I also have this same issue, though I only have 4.1 gbs unaccounted for. I have used only 14.5 gbs so my free space should be 11.3 gbs but it is showing only 7.2 gbs available. Where did the rest of my memory go and how can I get it back??

P.S. the link in the second message says "message not found".

Same problem here! My settings say I have 17gb of available memory but my phone is sending me messages saying it doesn't have enough memory to run or download any further apps.
I just don't understand, my phone is only 2 years old, I expected it too last a lot longer than this but it's running so slow I need a new phone, but I fear the next one will have the same problem!
