Xperia S GPS Problem

Hi Sony and Users,

Since day one 1 (9 march 2012) that i had the Xperia S i have GPS problems.

Looking at the forums there are more people with the same problem.

It looks like the 2011 range has the same problems.

The Xperia Pro / Neo / V are running on Android 2.3.4 (What i have read).

The Xperia S is running Android 2.3.7

Why is there no bug fix for the 2.3.4 version.

Why did you bring out the Xperia S with the bug still in it. When does the Fix come.

The forum thread of the 2011 models, already sad that the bug was there on oct 29, 2011 by JojoNeo.

So you just continue to bring out phone's with the same problem??

For me the only thing that works is to turn on Flight Mode and then Navigate. Thats NO option for me.

I have a HSDPA 14,4 Mbit/s connection on my phone but the problem is still there.

5 minutes of navigation and the connection freezes till i restart the phone.

OK, my GPS is now working fine.  Hooray.  Seriously, I was going to send this back too under the same criteria 'not fit for purpose' or more likely under The Sale Of Goods Act as the phone was inherently faulty.

All of your problems with Three do appear relate to this GPS Sony Experia S problem and I am just astonished how Sony and all cell companies decided to market and sell a phone with a faulty firmware.  Not only did they put it on the market knowing it had an issue but when customers complained they acted as though they did not really know what was wrong.  How stupid for Three to give you a new phone when it was the firmware in the phones that were incorrect.

Both Sony and Three and no doubt other operators could have avoided this problem by either not marketing a faulty firmware or being transparent about the issue.  Three have acted very irresponsibly in that they just did not have a clue or at least their sales staff did not.  The shop I went to were surprised to hear of a GPS issue, I told them to go online.  I am sure they were passed caring once I had signed the contract.  Three tries to pride itself on sales aftercare but obviously their staff do not have the foggiest.  Whilst Sony eventually addressed the issue, Three did not and somewhere in that company they knew the new firmware needed applying to address various issues.

I guess the policy was just keep your mouth shut until an update is issued!!!!  Bad show indeed.

Still, I would add the phone is great.

Actually Sony had the firmware fix in place prior to its UK release... guess they had already shipped the phones, its the mobile operators who have dragged their feet, which is why I upgraded to an unbranded version of the firmware...

Expect an even longer delay when ICS is released.:smileywink:

Upgrading to unbranded sounds great if you have the skills, time and tenacity to do it.  I used to be good at all that stuff but seem to not bother these days as I generally end up making it worse or lose countless hours of my life!

having read all the problems witht the gps, its seemed to be helpful. So i decided to update my phone only to come across the message saying the sever is busy. so i could update.

I too am with Three mobile. and find the after service of the company bad. the assistant that sold me the phone failed to describe anything about the phone. even tho i looked into the phone i expected the person to tell me a little about it.

so i cant update so no GPS atm but im hoping soon. love the phone but cant get the full use of it.

also expect Sony to post more replies to help people.

And i have GPS problem, it won't reconect after lost signal... I use Sportstracker and Endomodo and with both have same problem. On .62 , can't upgrade on .67 in Croatia (VIP).

I have a similar issue. My Build No. is .62 and the companion is keeping me telling that he is up2date......:smileyangry:

In my case with strange effects: When I start the navi SW (Sygic) I lose GPS after some few minutes (most of the times.

When I used the app "GPS Status" I first lost the signal after 5 Minutes, then it worked 10 minutes and after the second reboot It did work during 40 munites drive-to-work and then since some hours.

As my provider is Sunrise Switzerland I am currently on the phone to tell them what I want....

Try to download XTRA Data Download Service ( from market )... that might help.

all we can do is wait for ICS.

Hi Goggo: I got News:

Sunrise first told me they would not block any updates.

The asked me to call Sony (shouldn't they do it themselves ?)

Sony told me after checking my SI number of the phone that for this special type branded phones they would need a release from Sunrise and they have none.

Then again calling Sunrise the guy told me he would go to his boss and tries to find out.

I am coming back as soon as I have news....
