Xperia –Ray display problem

I bought my Xperia ray six months back. Updated my phone software to ICS on last month. It was working absolutely fine after ICS update. From last five day i am facing the problem in display. When I trying to unlock my phone through power button or home button just backlight turning on, but the screen remain blank (black). If I turn on my phone after keep my phone idle for 3-4hrs, then it shows unlock bar screen without any problem. Due to that I could not able use my phone now.

Still i can able to attend my call by connecting through headset. But I could not able see the caller ID, it remains blank.

I tried to resolve this issue by doing factory reset, and software repair through PC companion. But I could not solve the problem. Can anyone help me to resolve this issue?

The problem isn’t display. They replaced relay part only in the mother board. They mentioned the part number in the service report. And they changed my os to 2.3.4 from ICS. i dont know, how it will work with ICS again. So i am not updating my OS to ICS even updates are available. Because the damage was happened after the OS update last time.

Hi I am from Bangalore.......i'm facing the same problem.....my warranty is over and the guy at the service center says the display has to be changed and it will cost 12-13k for it !!

I'd really appreciate it if you share more details regarding how your phone got fixed.......thanks in advance 🙂

they replaced the whole phone (except the battery & back cover) (i was still in warranty)

they told me it was a motherboard malfuncion and they can't change a part (they do not have someone to do that i assume)

i'm in Cairo, Egypt.

I managed to "fix it" with tasker and disabling the proximity sensor. Now at least it doesn't get the black screen.

Hi Axess, could you please shed more light into your fix ?

I rooted my phone and used Hardware Disabler to shut the bloody proximity sensor And I am using wakelock to prevent the screen from dying. Also using some 3rd party software to lock the phone. However my battery life now is pathetic, since i dont switch off the display completely !!

Tasker is an app that you can use to do a lot of things in the phone. What I do is leave the lcd display in 0 so this helps with battery.

Look for tasker on the market (around $6) or download the trial version so you can start messing with it. To "prevent" the display from turning off you can create a Profile, first context select event, then display, display off. After that you need to download the secure settings plugin (market as well) and then create a task for that profile. The task should be Action Category: Plugin, secure settings, wake device. On the same task you can select as action category: Alert, Set light and select how much you want the screen to remain on. This will make the lcd screen go back to a low light setting but without turning it off.

I think is better if you try tasker first as you will get more familiarized with the program so if you need some help later it will be easier to tell the profiles I'm using at the moment.

Hi I am mildly familiar with tasker. Been using it for other chores. However is it possible to prevent the display from going off even if i intentionally hit the power button ?? Sometime when im travellin this button gets hit and i end up with the balck screen of death again !!

Yes. Get the secure settings plugin from the market. Then you can use that to create a task that wakes the device when screen goes off, no matter if you press the power button.

Hi I am using both now.....tasker seems to work fine while using inbuilt tasks......however any taks using secure settings are somehow not working......any idea what might be the problem ?? I am using rooted android 4.0.3
