Xperia Pro PC installation - Windows XP

Hi,

I just got my new Xperia Pro phone and I'm trying to set it up with my PC, I installed the PC companion software, but when I plug in my phone, the Found New Hardware device just keeps giving endless popups on the bottom right saying "Found New Hardware  MTP Device". This just keeps popping up continuously and endlessly and nothing additional happens. When I check Device manager, it does show MTP device, but that's it.

Please advice what to do? I have already restarted my PC and phone but still the same.

on your phone go to

settings -> sony ericsson -> connectivity -> USB connection mode -> Mass storage mode (MSC) make sure Auto connect in MSC it's NOT selected

Make sure you backup everything

Settings -> privacy -> Back up my data and Automatic restore should be selected

and also

Use one of these links to download the

Contacts

just to play it safe sync your contacts w/ google if you haven't already

open your phonebook

on your computer

-> download the file -> go to your gmail -> click on contacts -> click on more actions -> on the drop down menu click on "import" -> choose the file -> and click import

It was set to MTP mode. it is able to detect the phone now in MSC even with the Autoconnect in MSC is checked. But can someone explain what is the difference between MTP and MSC mode? how does the MTP help and how is it different from MSC?

it all depends on what you want to do, I prefer to mount my SD card as an additional drive on my comptuer, some other prefer to connect it on Media transfer mode to use MEDIA GO to transfer their music, I rather open the drive and transfer it myself

As mentioned above, I am able to connect with MSC but the phone still refuses to work with MTP. The pop up on the bottom right hand corner still pops up endlessly and it keeps saying MTP device found a million times and nothing happens. Am I missing drivers for xp or something? Please help.

MTP is a Microsoft protocol for exchanging DRM protected media. It allows syncing and transfer between your desktop and portable media devices. Your questions about MTP on XP will get better answers if posted on a Microsoft forum.

you are missing some drivers, reinstall PCC and restart your computer

This is becoming a pain. I have uninstalled everything, reinstalled, still the same issue. The phone connects fine with MSC mode but it just keeps popping up saying found new hardware MTP device while trying to connect with MTP mode.
