Xperia play touchscreen isn't working

I have had an xperia play for just over 12months. In recent weeks from time to time the touchscreen stopped responding, I just switched the phone off and on and this seemed to work.I have also opened the slide and this opened the phone (usually have to put a pin in to unlock sim using touchscreen) However my touchscreen has now stopped working completely. I cannot even open the phone by using the slide now!

I have tried switching the phone off and on, taking out the battery, I have tried the recommended(by sony) software update using the PC companion. This only lets me go to the point of putting usb into phone, the next step is to pull down the info bar, however all I have is a blank screen but if I had a visible screen my touchscreen doesn't work so I wouldn't be able to do it anyway!!

Can anybody help???????

Well, if you can't update or repair the software yourself you need to send the phone in to a service center for repair. It might be caused by a glitch in a connector to screen which you can't fix by yourself. Contact your retailer and ask them to help you.
