Hi there,
I know that currently GLONASS is not supported on this handset.
However if I get it right it, the ST-Ericsson NovaThor U8500 Processor should be capable of handling those extra satellites for higher precision, according to this article: http://www.prweb.com/releases/2012/2/prweb9221020.htm
My two questions:
1 - Is it theoretically possible?
2 - In the future -maybe with JB- can we expect GLONASS? (I mean, has it been considered as a feature as it was here: http://developer.sonymobile.com/2012/01/19/glonass-support-in-our-latest-xperia-phones/ ? Or has it been somewhere said that this is not a possibility? Or maybe that Sony is planning it?
Thank you very much for any info and keep up the good work Sony
Theoretically it should be possible, as the chip has the capabilities.(NovaThor™ U8500)
But the function itself was not included in the model. (Not listed in the white papers)
But let me look into this to see what comes up.
Francis
Thanks for the quick answer!
Please advise what you have found later.
Anything new about this?
To have GLONASS they need the C2905 GPS/GNSS chip ALL Sony's have a C2900 which does not support GLONASS.
The only U8500 chipset phones that have GLONASS are the Samsung Ace 2 and Beam, the Galaxy S3 mini has a U8520 with GLONASS. None of the Sony's have GLONASS and todate none of the rumoured 2013 phones will have a STE chipset, a sign that Sony does not favour it's own chipset.
Are you sure about that?
check this!

the U8500 will feature the CG2905 multi-function connectivity chip – announced today at Mobile World Congress – which adds GLONASS support to the 2900 series of GNSS, FM, and Bluetooth® combos
I dont understand. Its a software thing or hardware which we dont have in Xperia P?
It's a Sony software missing feature.
Hardware has GLONASS.
I think.
What do you think

It would be awesome to see it working.
