Everytime I connect to 3G, whether I enable data traffic or not, I have very very bad reception (1 bar to nothing, and sometimes it switches to 4 for a second, and then again 1). This has nothing to do with the coverage in my area, because I have this everywhere.
But when I just stick to 2G, I don't have this problem, I have perfect reception.
Not only that, but with 3G, it just eats away my battery, I can only use my phone for 1 day!!!
But with 2G, I can easily do 3-4 days.
Is there a problem with my phone, or is this 'normal'?
I'm running Gingerbread 2.3.7, because Sony still hasn't released ICS for my phone

Network mode
On 3G: UMTS
On 2G: GSM
Signal strength:

On 2G: -53 dBm 30 asu
My SIM is 1 week old
Don't see how that can help you, I clearly described my problem
Oh and btw, a lot of my friends have the same mobile operator as me, they do not have this problem, but they do not have Sony devices as well...

Like I said, UMTS for 3G and GSM for 2G. I don't have WCDMA.
Now it's running GSM only, if I put it to UMTS preferred, GSM, I have almost no reception and my battery drains instantly
I have no battery draining apps on my phone, I removed all that useless stuff that came with it.
Only the basic essential apps (which cannot be removed without rooting) are on there, there are no specific apps running in the background that could drain my battery drasticaly, checked my battery usage
is your phone compatible with your network? (who is your network provider)?

Hi Expert,
I have similar problem on my Xperia P phone. I have checked with network provider, and phone is compatible with network. I can see my phone has WCDMA & GSM network modes, and WCDMA is preferred, but due to poor connectivity it switch back to GSM.
While on other 3G enabled phone 3G reception is perfect on same network provider and no loss of connectivity.
Network mode On 3G: WCDMA
Signal strength: On 3G: - 99 dBm 7 asu
Mobile Network Type HSPA:11
Model number: LT22i
Android Version: 4.0.4
Baseband Version: u8500-49020804-P2H_EC01
Kernal Version: 3.0.8+
Build Number: 6.1.B.0.544
Please help
Yesterday, I did a comparisson with my friends, they all have the same operator as me.
Checking different brands, types, and operating systems.
None of them have this problem, but (again) none of them have a Sony mobile device.
It's just the phone, it sucks...
Now if this was a low-range model I wouldn't be surprised, I could've just bought a higher model, but this phone costed almost 400€...
Never buying Sony again ever.
What is SONY doing to resolve this problem?
Nothing.
I just updated to ICS and now it's even worse
