Need Answer from SE people/moderator about why the RAM is 335 MB, which is so less than 512 MB (177 MB less), as claimed in the product specs?
Request you to please address this asap, otherwise it will definitely badly hit the Sony/ Sony Ericsson Brand credibility.
Awaiting Reply...
You can read about it here

After installing an application you may find that it is still running in the background, checking the Running Services will show the active processors using the Ram, remember Running Services in applications is the only location that will show available Ram. Some applications may require a constant process to stay running in the background to enable the service that it provides which will be shown within Running Services.
Try power cycling the handset you will notice the amount of RAM will change until you start opening applications.

Mr. uliwooly,
Please understand, what I have listed above is not after seeing the available RAM from Settings >> Applications >> Manage Applications >> Running TAB
But what I have listed above is the output of command:
$ cat /proc/meminfo
which you can also find out after connecting your phone to computer via usb and opening command prompt and then: $ adb shell
This command "cat /proc/meminfo" is a standard Linux command available on Android as well (obviously coz Andorid uses Kernel 2.6.x)
This command lists the actual physical RAM in your phone and not the one which laymens use to view system memory (like: going via "Settings >> Applications >> Manage Applications >> Running TAB")
So, request you to please reply me correct and technical answer instead of giving lame answer as above.
I am aware of Andorid internals and to some extent Linux, so please please read question properly and Reply
I was trying to help, there's no need to be rude, good luck

Mr. uliwooly,
I am sorry for projecting as Rude, I didn't intend to...Really SORRY!!!

No problem, I know they give me some lame answers and sometimes quite useful answers, this wasn't useful at all. you can read some other not so useful answers here

we need more than a SE moderator here, we need a SE-developer to answer this question (RAM)
did you read the link mentioned by uliwooly..??
the way you checked.its the same as you check going in applcation settings....
i also have around 300mb... which sucks.... even if the ram available is low , with the latest firmware update , my arc lags like anything... if you exit any heavy application , homescreen takes around 5 seconds to launch... there are many other bugs as well..
i just want them to have an efficient memory management in the coming ics update , i dont wnt to root , why should i .....
they should provide us a bug free phone... i'm happy with my phone but there are little bugs which irritates you sometimes....

I dont think so, coz total phy. RAM is 335 where as via : (Settings >> Applications >> Manage Applications >> Running TAB) it shows only: approx. 288 MB
oh ok...hmm.....
well there are many other apps in android market which says the same...
335mb..
see this..
i dont know why's this...
