I have just bought a Xperia M5 and have problems connecting my Garmin heartrate monitor (ANT+) via the Endomondo app. Appreciate help or advice on how to do this.
I have installed different apps (Endomondo, ANT+ Demo and ANT+ Plugin Sampler) on the phone and all show similar error messages: “ANT Adapter Not Available” when trying to connect or test ANT+ connectivity. The heart rate monitor can connect to my Garmin Edge 810 independently, so there does not seem to be an issue on the heart rate monitor side.
Phone details:
Model number: E5603
Android version: 5.1
Kernel version: 3.10.72+
Any idea of how you can tell if ANT+ is running on the phone?
Can other M5 users connect devices using ANT+ connectivity on the M5?
SONY Xperia customer services has confirmed that the published specifications for the Xperia M5 including ANT+ are correct.

Hi @NielsA,
I'll try to get some information about this. I'll let you know as soon as I know more.
Hi Christofer, thank you and highly appreciated.
I have now run the ‘ANT Tester’ app on my phone. The result says that the M5 does not have built-in ANT support (Built-in ANT detected: No). See screenshot.
Of course the ANT Tester utility might not work correctly, but as the other apps I have installed shows similar result, I am starting to wonder if the M5 actually has ANT+ support as the published Specifications states.
Is anyone from SONY able to confirm that the M5 actually has ANT+ support? If the answer is ‘Yes’, any suggestion as to why the different Apps indicate this is not the case.
@NielsA I'm still waiting for more information so I do unfortunately not have any new information about this yet.
Hi Christofer, thank you for letting me know that you are still looking into this.
I looked at the M5 White Paper for developers, and it does not mention ANT+ support. http://dl-developer.sonymobile.com/documentation/whitepapers/Xperia_M5_E5603_E5606_E5653_WP_2.pdf
Sony has conflicting documents, on that whitepaper they make no reference to Ant+ but on the products page:
http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/products/phones/xperia-m5/specifications/
it's clearly stated there that the device supports ANT+ wireless technology.
Christopher, any updates on this? Thank you.
Nothing new yet I'm afraid.
Maybe there's hope, I just saw my current phone's whitepaper - Xperia Ray (yes, it's old
) and although the phone has ANT+ there's no reference to it on the whitepaper.
(and yes I am sure because I've been using it for the last couple of years)
Hi Mindo,
Great that SONY overdelivered and ANT+ was available on your Xperia Ray even though it was not included or referenced in the Whitepaper.
However, there is a an article by Joe Padre, SONY Developer World from August 3rd 2015 regarding the M5. In the comment section he mentions that ANT+ is out of scope. This position could of course have changed since August. So. maybe there is hope, so will be good to get an update from SONY.
