Did this reoccur when you applied your previous wallpaper? Does the same thing happen if you apply another wallpaper (say one of the preinstalled ones)?
You aren't by any chance using another launcher?
In that case this points to the image that you select for your wallpaper. If it works when you select one of the preinstalled images there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with your phone, but could instead be related to how the image is cropped when you select it as your wallpaper.
