Xperia ion Jelly Bean Update

I wanted to ask when are the Xperia ion users getting Jelly Bean update?

Sony is very lazy in providing updates... All other brands have Jelly Bean 4.2 in place and Xperia users are struggling to get Jelly Bean 4.1 update Slightly_frowning_Face

You pay 35K for a phone and don't even get an OS update for it. Complete waste!!

Feeling very diappointed that even the Sony Support people are not sure about the timelines of the update.... I am just afraid of the day... Sony gives update of android 4.1 to ION; by that time world will move on to android 5.0 Slightly_frowning_Face

There is a rumor that Samsung will release a 4.2.2 android for S3 and Note 2 in Juny. And we are still waiting for 4.1

Xperia ION so called higher end model, I have ION which I purchased in 30K hoping that whenever new update for android will come I will get update first before any other model. Its disgusting that other lower end models like Xperia J got update before ION. Really no value to my 30K. It feels disgusting when I get to know that even Micromax has also given update to JB to their phones. Its really shame on you Sony, Micromax has done it before you.. And yet no fix date is given.. When all other phone will start using 4.2 or 5.0, we will be still struggelling for 4.1

I concur with you. I payed a lot of money for my phone and had to subscribe to a provider I really don't like just to get it for a reasonable price and I expected much more from the phone and especially from the update point of view. The phone is elegantly designed but that's where the good stuff ends. The Update Centre is a joke. It seemed like it's going to be a nice feature but it's used only for system updates (for which I have a feeling is going to be once or twice more since it looks like these phone might not get Key Lime Pie at all according to how you select devices for updates. The New Apps and Updates sections in the Sony Update Center should be alive with at least one addition on a weekly basis.

Sony you have nice ideas but you don't commit to them as you don't commit to your dear consumers.

And instead of trying to comfort us with useless "We don't have any information at the time" it would be wise to copy/paste a "few" of this disgrunteled posts and forward them to people who do. I myself am an android  developer and when my boss asks/tells me for a time and date when it can be release the date is set in stone. There are no might be somewhere around next Tuesday or next year when it comes to a deadline.

Get a hold of yourself and try actually catering your consumers whose steady purchases gained through brand loyalty put food in your mouths and roof over your head. Remember as soon as consumers get fed up by lousy service which sadly you are more and more becoming they find a better source for their wants and needs.

Hi Samuel from Sony Support,

If you don't have the exact date, what is stopping you from looking for that information? You've heard of many frustrated xperia users, like me, who want to know about the release date of jellybean on their Xperia Ion.

After using P1i, X10a and now Ion, I'm sereously considering that my next phone will not be a Sony because of this poor Support Service.

You all crib too much. It's a good phone, with good features and a stable OS. There is absolutely nothing wrong with ICS, it still works, doesn't it? I've been using the Ion since September last year and i'm really happy with. I'm not one of those software crazy users, who needs to speed up the phone by rooting it and what not. But I do enjoy a stable, user-friendly smartphone - the Ion satisfies my needs.

Suppose you do get the JB update, then what? Some of you will root your phone and fiddle around with the existing OS. Others will crib about why the next update hasn't come through. Ultimately, time passes and yo'll probably buy another phone.

I've been a Sony user for many years now and i'm completely satisfied with the products - LED TV's, Home Theatre system, walkmans, headphones, laptop and smartphones. \m/

On a last note, just be patient. It'll come to you.

I am a big big Sony supporter and I am loyal to the brand but with being android software developer for android I do need a platform that's not stumbling behind the current developments and API's. And if I give good money for a upperclass smartphone I kind of expect support for it and my device not to be abandoned in a yeart. Just imagine if Sony did the same for PlayStation... Do you think they would have the same consumer base with this approach - hell no. And every normal company knows it's timelines and with Japanese companies that timelines are almost set accurately to a second.

@dodofren: Fair brother! Fair. I've experienced super service when my PS2 and PS3 gave trouble. Sony were spot-on. With respect to the Ion, my best guess is that Sony are evaluating the updates for each region for each model in the Xperia series. I guess the hypocrit in me will start showing in a month or two! Sony have promised us of a JB update, i'm sure they won't let us down, it's just a matter of 'when' and which region has been given priority (of the JB release).

Cheers!
