Hello,
Here is a problem encountered on my Xperia Go, on both Android 2.3 and 4.0.4 (6.1.1.B.1.10) :
I'm writing an application which records audio. To do that, we are using in the Android SDK, the class AudioRecord, which manages audio recording. We must provide to this class, the audio source to be used, for example AudioSource.MIC (main microphone) or AudioSource.CAMCORDER (back microphone used by the camera).
When I choose the main microphone input (AudioSource.MIC), the camera microphone is activated !! Of course in these conditions, the recorder audio is not audible : you would need to turn back the phone to speak in front of the camera microphone !!!
The behaviour slightly differs depending on the version used :
Android 2.3 : If I choose AudioSource.CAMCORDER, the main front microphone is activated. I suspect an inversion between the two !
Android 4.0.4 : Now, whatever source you choose, the camera microphone is the only one activated 😞
This problem can be highlighted with a lot of applications working on the same principle : VoIP or notes recording apps (for ex. "Easy Voice Recorder").
Thank you for considering this problem.
Regards.
I suggest that you turn to Developer World to raise this.

No Johan !!!
EVERYONE that own an Xperia GO has this problem (read those threads :http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/49827 or http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/48202 )
It is not a problem with Recforge, nor Viber, nor Talking Tom, ... It is a problem with SONY FIRMWARE, that use REAR microphone when applications request FRONT (main) microphone.
Since regular calls works fine, it is not a hardware problem.
Sony has to fix this by correcting their firmware, so please STOP asking customers to bring back their device to the repair center or contacting developpers. It will not help.
Sony has to do it's job and simply correct that such big bug and listen to their customers...
Thanks..
I Just tested on another Xperia GO, and the problem IS THE SAME !
Sony, please SOLVE THIS IMMEDIATLY, and stop redirrecting customers to the repair center.
A repairing can't do anything as it is a SOFTWARE problem.
I you don't correct it, I'll use all legal ways to get my money back, and more !
Hi,
Keep cool vandevandel, Johan just drove me to the developer forum (in fact stackoverflow.com), not a repair center. But you are true, all users using applications with voice recording are impacted by this problem, not only week end developers like me !
The simpler way to highlight the problem : mask the rear microphone with your finger, and try Google voice search. It will never ear you !!!
It's a really stupid bug !!! But it should also be very easy to fix ;o)
Obby.
Hi,
No, I will not keep calm, because Sony is informed for weeks about this problem, but still not have a solution.
It's even worst : Sony doesn't look for a solution and don't listen to their customer.
Xperia go performance are also so bad since ICS upgrade, IT IS A SHAME for a smartphone released only few month ago !
I was talking about a repair center because Sony said to me to bring back my phone to a repair center when a asked them (by phone) to resolve this problem.
They do not listen to thier customers,.. they will pay for that if they don't fix this problem impacting all Xperia go users.
I have some differents legal ways to get my money back and to make Sony loose some money for cheating against thier customers..
I have the same problem. Normal calls work great, whereas in voip calls (skype or viber) I can perfeclty hear other people but they hear me with extremely low volume.
I have tried to reinstall the applications and/or restore factory settings, but the problem holds. I haven't tried to update to ICS, since it seems it does not solve the problem and it might make the phone laggy.
My sister's phone, same model, same software version but bought at a different time have no problems at all.
Please let us know how to solve this issue.
