xperia e1 won't charge from car socket

I have just bought an Xperia E1.  The phone charges OK from the mains adaptor and from the USB port of my computer.  I find it will not charge from a USB adapter plugged into the car's 12V outlet.  Is this how it should be or is there setting that can be adjusted?

My husband"s Xperia E charges OK from the 12V outlet.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

Which connection mode is the phone set in? If it's connected via a stereo or similar, it needs to be put in MSC mode, if not, you should be able to use MTP mode instead.

We can't guarantee that the phone works with all 3rd party accessories, but it should work with most USB chargers.

Swapping between MSC and MTP options does not solve the problem.

The output from the SONY supplied mains adapter is 5.0 VDC ~ 850 MAH. I'm trying to use an adapter (from a Satmap GPS unit) that plugs into my car 12V supply that has an output of 5.0 VDC ~ 600 MAH. My husband's Xperia E charges OK from this supply. Is there a difference between the E and E1 that makes the E1 unsuitable for this source.

Also my E1 will not connect to WiFi sources when my husband's E connects fine.

Hope this inf. helps you suggest another option.

Thanks
