Xperia Arc keeps restarting itself

Hi,

After many months of ownership and putting up with this problem and being fobbed off by the shop I took the phone from to perform upgrades etc I am finally fed up with my Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc resetting itself on the slightest of knocks it recieves.  I am very knowledgable on computers etc, build them and know for a fact this MUST be a hardware problem or design flaw as it ONLY happens when the phone receives the slightest taps or knocks...eg in my pocket and my hand my tap my pocket whilst walking.  Or simply placing the phone on a table is enough to make it restart if i dont place it down veeeeeeeeeeery gently like its a bloody bomb waiting to explode!!  Personally I wish it would, at least then I'd get a replacement!!

I'd like Sony to admit there is a problem with some of these models, recall them and give me a replacement as I can see simply from this forum that its not uncommon and the moderators here are simply suggesting to update the software which solves nout when it comes to this problem!

PLEASE some help!!  I still have 18 months to go on this bloody contract and despite being a fan of Sony products, TV's, sound systems and even the phones this has put me off so much I am seriously considering never buying Sony again!!  Hell am even starting rate this phone below the Apple IPhone!

Regards,

David

Even my Arc S reboots randomly, but it doesn't even need the slightest nudge to do that. It is lying there on the table....still...with no apps running at all.... All of a sudden i see it and it welcomes me with the XPERIA startup logo. Well I never faced this problem on Gingerbread 2.3.4, but now, on this ICS build 4.1.B.0.431, the reboot problem seems to occur once every couple of days....
HELP ME PLEASE! Crying_Face

Well did you update to ICS with sim card and SD card connected then there will be some issues after update. So follow the steps below to repair it.

1) Go to settings -> Backup & reset -> Factory data reset -> select Erase SD card and click reset phone button (This will wipe the SD card and settings before the repair-please make sure to backup contacts and data)

** To backup contacts Go to Contacts -> click options button(the button at the right) -> click Back up contacts -> select SD card (back file will located at System -> PIM folder in SD card)

2) Install Sony update service - http://www-support-downloads.sonymobile.com/Software%20Downloads/Update_Service_Setup-2.11.12.5.exe

3) Switch off the phone and remove the sim card and the SD card(Do not switch on untill prompt by software)

4) Now follow the on screen instructions properly. Make sure to select "Reset settings and update" option rather than "Recommended - update with all the apps currently installed" option.

** But if you want to really go back to GB follow this post - http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/35239?tstart=0

After reading the forum trying out stuff, experimenting, re-installing, upgrading/downgrading.... here is what i found. At least on my xperia arc i can re-create the issue 100% of time. Every time the phone goes into GSM mode instead of CDMA it just re-boots. The settings-mobile networks.... i changed it from "gsm/wcdma preferred" to "wcdma only". putting it on "GSM only" makes it goes into cyclic re-boot which you can come out using SUS (sony upgrade service). Mostly yhe phones are on setting "gsm/wcdma preferred", so when one goes into area with weaker signals the phone tries to move from wcdma to gsm and bam!!! re-boot. Also swithcing on blue-tooth makes the phone go into gsm mode and again ...reboot.

I have put my phone to WCDMA only setting and its been 2 months without a "random" reboot. This works both on 2.3 and 4.0.  urrently the phone is on 4.0 official release without any problem.

I was experiencing the same problem of frequent restarts while 3G is active on my SE Xperia Ray. I tried the fix suggested by 'realbanda' and it seems to have fixed the problem.

Thank you "realbanda".
