I own a Sony Xperia Arc (purchased on June, 2011) and it doesn't work anymore without any explanation.
When I turn on the phone, it appears Sony Ericcson brand and then, mobile network carrier brand, but then, instead of appearing home, it appears again Sony brand and an infinite loop goes on.
I have read posts about similar problems and I have tried all the possible options: neither Sony PC Companion nor Sony Update Service have fixed my problem (following carefully the steps to connect the phone, of course) .
For your information, I haven't applied any kind of official upgrade before, neither I have tried to root the phone or flash any custom ROM, so I had my phone as it came from factory (with Android 2.3.2). Moreover, I haven't installed any suspicious application, just typical apps like whatsapp and so on.

also try to turn it on w/o your SIM and SD cards
I have installed Android SDK and Eclipse, you cant get phone log with it.
I have tried already turning on phone without SIM and SD and it happens the same.

I thought there was another way or an app to do so
in that case it might be a hardware issue, you should take it to a Sony repair center
In the end, I could fix the problem updating to a new firmware using Sony Update Service

I experienced the same problem and I'd like to thank you for sharing the solution. I could fix my Xperia Arc LT15 re-installing again the firmware using Sony Update Service.
