I have an X10. Does it require SE's proprietary chargers?
I thought the USB micro would be a world standard for chargers, i.e. that chargers would become interchangable.
I have tried charging my X10 from a different power source connected to an USB micro cable.
I have tried charging my X10 from a different power source in my car (12V cigarette outlet) connected to an USB micro cable.
Neither works!
Please explain, Sony Ericsson.

I used my friend's Blackberry cable with my Xperia™X10 and it worked. I will admit that I was surprised, but the Xperia™X1 is compatible with generic mini USB cables, so I wasn't very surprised.
Thanks for your answer.
However the problem isn't the cable, it is the power adapter / power supply unit, that I insert into the wall outlet, or cigarett outlet. Do these have to be SE proprietary? That would defeat the whole idea about a world standard for chargers...
Hello SE!
Please give an answer!
Hello,
I'm sorry for the very late response, I'm reviewing old threads.
There is no information from us concerning using a Sony Ericsson branded charger, although we certainly recommend it.
I have, informally, tested with a number of third-party devices and was sucessfull.
I can quite confidantly tell you, no it does not. USB cables have a certain capacity they can operate under. Beyond that the wire will melt. Now in order for the charger to meet the requirement, they will need to allow electricity to flow through the USB cable without causing any accidents.
I too have this issue.
The phone will charge from
the supplied SE wall outlet > USB charger
a third party wall outlet > USB chrger (that also charges a second battery)
every PC i've plugged it into
But it WILL NOT charge from
a third party car cigarette lighter > USB adaptor
Incidentally, I've now tried three of these adaptors with no success! The third (Belkin) unit confidently states that it will charge any USB device and is rated at 1000mA, the supplied SE wall outlet adaptor is rated at 700mA.
The adaptor will charge my iPod quite happily. I'll try to charge my crap (work issued) Nokia later today.
I agree with Darkmax's comment that "...it definitely does not...", and it most definitley defies the logic of having a world standard for chargers!
I'm beginning to suspect witchcraft as opposed to wizardry!
Hi all???
As promised I tested the 3rd party Cigarette Lighter > USB adaptor with my work Nokia and it failed to charge that either!
This would lead most people to believe that there's something wrong with the adaptor, but it will charge an iPod, so therefore there isn't!
What I'm wondering now is what the difference is between...
1. the car DC derived 5V DC on the USB pins of the adaptor
and
2. the mains AC derived 5V DC thats on the USB pins of the SE supplied adaptor (and every PC I've tried)
Methinks the AC derived 5V DC is somehow different - maybe not true DC for example.
Out of interest I opened up the car adaptor expecting to find a 7805 +5V regulator and some decoupling capacitors and found a whole nest of clever jiggery pokery instead! It looked like a DC to DC converter which was surprising given the cost of the device!
Any answers from SE??
