Greetings all!
I still have to wait for full-functionality on my X10 when the service provider gets updated to a new contract in a few weeks.
However, I cant get it to connect to my home wi-fi network.
It recognises the network and remembers it. The Network Key is good. Ive tried both with and without 'data traffic enabled', and of course the phones Wi-Fi is turned on- Ive tried that both through the main screen and through the Wi-Fi Settings screen.
Any ideas why its not working? I got a shock bill last week because the phone was using dial-up connection instead of Wi-Fi without me realising it!
Also, how can I ensure it chooses unsecured or 'FreeZones' when on the move over dial-up? I want to be able to use the Navigation function, but worry about the phone being connected too much, even with the internet bundle I am suscribing to.
Thanks!
Update-
Now have correct Sim for the phone and functionality seems better.
Data Traffic needs to be switched on for GPS, WiFi and 3G(mobile network) data connection.
Data Roaming needs to be switched on to send/receive data via 3G/mobile networks.
Use Static IP appears to need to be on to use home WiFi secured network.
A google account appears to be needed for Browser, Maps and possibly also Wisepilot.
Maps is a great alternative to wisepilot, but cant be used handsfree to give real-time directions.
Wisepilot is subscription-based, which I hadnt realised, and am rather put out over, plus the trial expired whilst I was still using my old providers SIM. I thought the navigation was free with the phone contract...bummer. For my use it may only be worth buying two-days, or a weeks subscription as and when its needed for trips/holidays...
I still like the phone, but its not easy to set up if you are not a techno-whizz, and support and user instructions are sadly lacking...
Download wifi fixer from android apps it will run in the background and fix your wifi, worked fine on my x10
Have you check your SSID, i.e. the name of your router. Spoke with SE and they told me not to lable the SSID with characters like: /&%#_*åäöñ. and so on.
Use only normal characters and numbers, like asdclkj45. Android seems to have an issue on that.
One other thing, DONT use space. e.g. if your SSID is: sony ericsson, change it to: sonyericsson. Worked in my case.
I had the same issue but noticed that I could connect to some public wifi like Starbucks.
I updated the firmware on my Lynksys router which fixed the issue at home. It's not universal unfortunately as some routers are still an issue.
