I read some news on the internet about android kit Kat will support 512 mb ram devices.
Will the xperia u get android 4.4?

That was almost a year ago

A new offer is there in Indian market: Exchange ur old phone for Nokia Lumia and get discount of upto Rs10,000. I’m gonna F**K my 1year old Xperia U. At least Nokia will keep upgrading Lumia in future also.

I can only thank Sony for the hardware, not for the software, although I use latest stock firmware from Xperia™ P in my Xperia™ U. I hope Sony change their opinion with Kit Kat distribution of Android. This device deserves it.

Xperia U got its last update in the form of 6.1.1.b.1.100 which is 4.0.4

With a 390MB usable RAM, this phone cant do anything but remain on the edge after using the usual apps such as whatsapp, gmail, facebook, hangouts, etc.

It is on the edge wth about 50-80mb of free RAM. Whenever anything extra happens or simultaneously, such as receving a phone call while replying to whatsapp message, it hangs and stp responding.

Now, Kit Kat is supposedly being repeased as an OS which can suport low end devices. If this is true, then Sony should look into getiting Xperia U the latest with 4.4

On the oher hand, Sony will also keep in mind about the current lot of the Xperia 2nd and 3rd gen phones currently in the market and will probably not want to upgrade the U to boost the sales of the current phones in the market. Xperia U was the first gen Xperia phone after Sony went Solo.
So, dont hold too many hopes on getting 4.4 on the U.

Another thing to notice is htat most of the Xperias have at most 1GB of RAm except for the Z, Z!, if I am not wrong. Where as folks like Samsung are offering 2GB and Quad core even on their mid range phones. Something Sony should look into before they become the Blackberry's of smart phones

Developers are already making such great custom ROMs without sources. Their effort is so valuable.

Anyway, sources may be leaked some day. As ST-Ericsson has ever answered to us making us know if sources would be released some day, neither STMicroelectronics nor Ericsson will answer us when the sources are leaked making us know if we can use them or not. This is just a joke, they all (including Sony) only want to sell phones as if they were candy. Both 2011 and 2012 Xperia phones deserve more support that the one they have received.

Anyway... I love my Xperia U with dual boot support and running both stock 6.2.A.1.100 firmware (Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean) and CM11 (Android 4.4.2 KitKat). Thanks to XDA developers. They have made such a great work.

I hope those who have unlockable bootloaders will get their phones hacked. They deserve it, as they have paid for it.
