Hi!
A strange thing happen when I create a WiFi-hotspot with my brand new Xperia V (updated to Android 4.1.2). WiFi connection seems to be ok, but when I try to open any website, Windows xp crashes and restarts. This happens every time I try to open any website, tried several times. No problems with Samsung galaxy S or Nokia Lumia 800 and this old Dell D430/Wxp Pro Sp3.
I can, however, connect Xperia V and D430 via bluetooth but this WiFi tethetring problem is strange. Also, at home I can use Xperia V WiFi tethering with my iPad and Windows 7 laptop without any problems. So, the issue seems to be related to Windows xp.
I recommend that you check if there are any new drivers available for the wireless network card that you have in this PC. If that doesn't help i recommend that you contact Dell regarding this.
Same here with Windows 7, shortly after connecting to the Xperia V access point, Windows 7 bluescreens with "IRQL not less or equal".
Tested both on a HP laptop with 32-bit Win7 Ultimate and a Dell with 64-bit Win7 Ultimate. Happened both with the shipped Android and after the update, I think both were 4.1.2.
The phone also restarts itself randomly and if I tether via USB or Bluetooth, the connected computer randomly loses Internet connection (the phone itself retains Internet connection).
Same here in Helsinki with my Xperia V, both on Android 4.0 and 4.1 when trying WiFi tethering. Blue screen on both Windows XP and 7 on my Thinkpads. And yes, I have all the latest drivers and updates installed.
On iPads and iPod Touches the wifi tethering works fine.
I have solved a similar problem on Windows 7 by going into the properties of the wireless network card used and making sure to "Enable FIPS" (Federal Information Processing Standards). With that, both my Win7 machines can use the hotspot function of my Xperia V.
