Wifi problem - limited connectivity

As title, my new Xperia Ion gets a few problems as follows when trying to connect to my home router(WEP, 802.11b/g).

1. The signal is weak. (Even I stand next to the router)

2. Need a long time to search for the ip address.

3. After connection established, it shows "limited connectivity", with IP showing 169.254.X.X. (It should be 192.168.X.X if properly connected).

4. That "limited connectivity" bascially equals to "no connectivity" as i could not update my whatsapp, check mail....or anything require internet.

5. I tired to use a static IP. Connection was successful with normal IP and no "limited connectivity". But I still could not get access to any internet service.

Originally i thought it was the problem of my router. But my ipod, notebooks, my friends' android(Samsung/ LG) can use my home wifi with no problems. And today I went out and tried a public wifi. The problem was still the same. My signal was weaker compared to my friends' and still i could not connect to that wifi but while my ipod could.

I have read some posts/forums on the internet trying to figure out the problems and surprisingly these situations happened in lots of Sony users(including sony ericssion users) for quite a long time already.

Desparately I cannot see any immediate action I can do now to tackle this. Or anyone knows how to solve this problem, at least temporarily??

I hope that this is not due to hardware problem and can be fixed as soon.

Check your wifi router what type of encryption you selected in router.

Then select  the type of encryption which is selected in your wifi router

Only for Open encryption you not need to put the password which is in you router .

I hope It will work.

I had same problem with same phone over multiple WiFi Routers... At home I was constantly rebooting my phone and router(s) to get it to work maybe 1 out of 5 times. This was the fix for me. It wiped my WiFi prefrences out, but it works now. Thank you for this answer!

If you are struggling with WiFi between your PC and SE, here is what worked for me:

Make sure your router/WiFi hotspot has got DHCP enabled with no static IP's assigned. (Oh yeah remeber to share your Internet connection though the router/hotspot)

On your SE go into the WiFi settings and uncheck the setting for Automatic assign IP address if DHCP fail.

Should work

I'm nt able tu connect ma phone(Xperia Z) to wi-fi.... fo ma home route. There is no problem in ma router as my frenz phones will be connected. And no problem occur. But in ma phone only limited connectivity will b active, its of no use because it juz shows but we will not be connected. We will be offline. This problem repeats not only in my home. But where ever wi fi network is available. it is not able to connect.
