WiFi issues in Xperia M dual

Recently got Xperia M dual. However, am unable to connect to internet with any of the pre-installed google apps (chrome, google play etc) through my work wi-fi. The device recognises and connects to wi-fi networks, connects to internet with the opera browser installed (so the wi-fi setiings must be fine) and my work place home page opens up in chrome but nothing else. in both chrome and google play upon signing in to google account get a error message 'can't establish a reliable coonection'. what can i do to rectify it

Do you use any Wi-Fi proxy settings?

Have you been able to check if the Google applications works using mobile networks?

Have been trying to manually configure IP settings, but the option to save the settings is not active, only cancel button is active,

no, none of the google applications are able to connect to internet

Am unable to use mobile networks with the google applications as for some reason the device tries to connect to internet only through wi-fi, even if the wi-fi is disabled
