Wifi Connectivity Problem - Help Pls!

So even Moderators run out of ideas sometimes so I am throwing myself at the mercy of the forum.

I flashed my X10 with a generic version of 2.3 when it was first released last year (November time) according to Uliwooly's great instructions and all went perfectly and my son has been using it since.  Yesterday he got a new phone on his contract, don't ask me what because he has gone to the dark side and I am no longer talking to him Winking_Face Anyway, because the phone was so cluttered with his apps and contacts etc and associated with his gmail account I figured the quickest way to clear it down was to do a Factory Reset from within the phone.  That all went fine but and here's the problem.... it won't connect to my home network.

So I thought I would run it through SEUS to see if that cleared the problem up, assumed that something had gone wrong in the re-set.  That didn't work either.  Re-flashed it with the original 2.3 firmware using Flashtool - cos this had previously worked but nope... no wifi connection.  Ok, so then searched the forum and followed various suggestions, static ip address, change channel on router, resetting router, changed security on router etc etc and still no luck.  Decided to try SEUS without SIM and SD just for the laughs, and that didn't do anything.  I have also tried reflashing with a different UK Generic software again using Flashtools.

I have also tried connecting to our mobile wifi hotspot dongle thing which it did on one occasion but hasn't since.  If it will even scan then It keeps scanning and will not find our home network but does find the mobile wifi dongle but won't connect to it.  The only way I can seem to get it to start scanning again is to turn the wifi off then back on in the Wi-Fi Settings.

I also tried the service menu, and service tests but it wouldn't complete the test on WLAN although when running the same test on my Neo it found a number of local networks including my own.

So now I am at a loss, is it my phone? Is it my router? Is it a combination of both? Most importantly does anyone have any suggestions to try before I ring SE's service centre on Monday?

Thank you in advance!

Hi Suze, since the GB "update" the same thing keeps happening to me also. Usually (9/10 times) restarting my router does it for me. There were times though that nothing worked but restarting the phone like 3-4 times and then it would connect. So far I am blaming my old (5 year old) router because I am sick of blaming GB for everything. Your problem though persists no matter what so I am worried that there may be a hardware issue.

Since you are already up to the neck and I am assuming that you havent installed some weird app that might interfere (you know which ones I am talking about) I would probably suggest you give 2.1 a try. See how it behaves. If you do get it to connect on 2.1 then your hardware is fine.

I hope you ll figure it out soon!

Have a nice day!

See, that's why forums are great.  Had been trying diffferent GB firmwares but hadn't thought about sticking 2.1 back on it.  Will give that a go today and see if it helps.  Thanks very much for the suggestion.

So 2.1 didn't solve the issue so I am now at the point that due to the lack of scanning it must be a hardware issue so I think it will need to go in for repair.  Blast, I love my X10.... it was my entrance model in to the world of Android and she has been a faithful companion ever since. Just downloaded, Wifi finder is just scanning and scanning but finding nothing and Wapdroid also says scanning and if you view networks ther are no networks.  Life the wifi finder app, cool interface!  I also downloaded them on my other phone just to see what I should be seeing if you know what I mean! I have no BSSID on my X10 and under signal it says scanning whereas I have a BSID on the Neo and a signal of -101dBm.

So its defo the service centre for me and my old gal, see if we can't get her fixed.

So I sent my phone off last Thursday and had it returned today (Thursday) and it has had its mother board replaced.  It is all working great now and I am well impressed with the turn around time so thank you Sony Ericsson Repair Centre in Ashford, Kent, UK.
