Why is Android OS using so much data.

I use Wi-Fi everyday and I have often observed my connection to go slow once in a few days, and whenever that happens, I check data usage chart which will show the Android OS to be the culprit. Some times it uses more data in a day than any other app. Today my total data usage was about 59 MB, out of which about 20 MB has been used by Android OS. I have all sync and backup services turned off, I have disabled Google plus, Facebook, Gmail, stock email, Twitter, YouTube, Google search apps and picasa extension. Why is Android OS then using so much data, and that too it uses only when another app is using the internet. When no other app is using the internet, Android OS too stops using data. Does anyone have an explanation. Or is it just that Google is gathering usage data? I tried searching the internet, but did not find an answer.

Hi Agape,

With the information supplied, I can advise that you can get High Android readings when having Backup & reset options turned on, as the device will connect to the internet to backup the phones content to your Gmail account.

I suggest turning this option off if you wish to conserve Data usage.

Menu > Settings > Backup & reset > Untick Back up my data

Also note, that if you have performed an update on the device using the phone instead of the PC it will contribute to this section as well.

I hope this information helps.
