Why does my phone regularly say 'Emergency Calls Only' even when there is network?

For about an average of five times a day, my phone has a notice on the home screen saying 'Emergency Calls Only' and even when network is fully restored with full signal, this notice doesnt leave till i switch the phone on and off. Meaning sometimes when i dont notice this msg on time, no one can reach me for the whole day because my xperia is refusing to connect to the network. I've tried searching for network under settings, it sees my network, but still refuses to connect - saying something about my sim card not being able to conect or something.

Currently, i usually have to switch the phone off and on before making any call (people cant reach me either) and this is really begining to get annoying, especially as i just got the phone this month.

Please how do i fix this?

Try a different SIM card and see if that solves the problem.

I am having the same problem since I moved from Malaysia to India. I currently have an Airtel 64k SIM card. I never had the same problems before in Malaysia.

I have not tried Dr_Chris' suggestion but I would guess it would probably work.

I could ask my company to provide another SIM card but that would mean a new mobile number - a big nuisance - so I would be very grateful for any suggestions how to work around this issue?

I too have the same issue with my phone. worst part. I'll have to restart the phone 2/3 times to get it back to normal state. I was asked to visit the sony center. worst part they downgraded my phone software... but still the problem exists. I sometimes wonder whether this phone was tested before it was out in market? I started to hate sony phones.... thanks to my Xperia Active.

My phone says emergency calls only...why ?

When I switch my phone off then it doesn't want to work  ....a secreen appears that says I must "force close"
