white triangle of death

Hey,

My phone froze yesterday and after doing the reboot, I got a black screen with a white triangle with a screwdriver on it.  I plugged my phone into the wall for 8 hrs but the screen wouldn't go away.  I was advised to do a Software update/PC Companion update, which called for me to turn my phone off.  Upon turning it off, I was unable to get my phone to turn back on under any circumstances.  It doesn't seem to be responding to turning power on/off, reboots, being plugged into wall or computer.  Please help!

Hi llama,

Welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

With the information supplied, I can advise that performing a software repair is done with the handset turned off completely. Follow through with the instructions with the device disconnected and turned off until it asks to connect the handset.

The handset will be off the whole time.

To repair the phone software

1.     Install PC Companion on a Windows PC from Support

2.     In PC Companion, under Support Zone and click Start.

3.     Under Phone Software Update, click Start.

4.     Click repair phone.

5.     Follow the on-screen instructions.

I hope this helps.

@llama,

Make sure that your phone is completely turned OFF > Charge it for 1 hr > Follow Jake´s steps.

If that fails, try to repair the phone using Sony Update Service.

Thanks for the reply, Jake.  I have already tried Sony PC Companion, but the program does not detect my phone.  For the 'Prepare' stage, it requires me to plug the phone into laptop while holding the volume down key.  I did as instructed, but there is no response from either phone or PC Companion....

Thanks for the reply, alexrx.  Unfortunately, when I plug my phone into wall, it does not respond.  The usual red light that would appear isn't there.  Also, I followed Jake's instructions, but again, no response from phone.

When PC Companion asks you to turn off the phone and connect it with vol- pressed, try holding on/off and vol+ for 10 seconds before you connect it and then connect it with vol- pressed.

The white triangle you saw sounds like the screen the phone displays while it's repairing the file system. If there's a problem in the file system you may get the same display after a successful repair in PC Companion. In that case, connect the charger and let the phone do the repair. It might take up to 24h to complete.

Thanks for replying -- when they ask me to connect my phone, it fails to detect it and the program won't continue past that point

Thanks for reply, Rickard -- my phone does not respond to pressing power and volume up.  I tried multiple combinations, and PCC does not detect anything.  I also tried it from a different computer, still nothing
