Where's my memory?

Where's my memory?

I have an xperia mini pro with a 2Gb card in it. Now I expect it to use some of that card for the various preinstalled apps etc but to use over 1Gb and not let me reclaim any of it!

Connecting it to my PC I can go to the card and look at properties which tells me I have 1.55Gb used. But select all the files and directories show and look for properties and it tells me that they take up 719Mb. That's nearly a gigabyte of memory filled with 'stuff' that I appear to not be able to remove so that I could use the space for something sensible. Now a quick search on here suggests using file explorer to delete things like the manual but they appear not to exist on my phone. So how do I reclaim some of this space?

All of this comes about because I was trying to copy on the music from my old phone and it only accepted a fraction of it and then fell over. Turns out that although they are both 2Gb, 2Gb on the xperios is a lot less thanon my old Sony Ericsson. The only way the get around that was to use file explorer to del;ete my music files at which point Media Go would try to dump the next few music files on the phone and fall over at which point I would repat the exercise until it stabilised itself.

You may have a corrupt system file on your memory card. Please try to format it: Main Menu > Settings > Storage > Unmount SD Card > Format SD card.

You will need to backup anything you have on the card you want to keep before doing so.

Hmm may get a larger card in there if that's the case. What's the best way to copy 'everything' copying from my old phone (W890i) to this one didn't take everything across when I tried to rely on the synch via Google stuff.

Also I've just tried a file manager app on the phone and that's shown a whole load of stuff which doesn't appear in the file manager in the PC. Why would that be?

The best way to transfer the data is via a PC, however bear in mind that due to differing operating systems some of the data will not be compatible. he reason some files will be seen and some not will be due to view preferences you have set up on your PC, don’t worry too much about that.
