What does the proximity sensor do?

Im using SE Arc S (LT11a). Brought it from Thailand. I find a proximity sensor and the light sensor on my phone. It is working fine in the service test

(*#*#7378423#*#*). How is the proximity sensor actually work and is it  automatically activate or have to do it manually? If so, how please?

Anyway, from my personal use, I didnt feel any different it adjusting the brightness especially during the night time. It is still too bright. Do i miss

configuring something or should I download any extra apps to utilise it? Thank you very much for your kind attention, advise and help in advance.

Hi,

Proximtiy sensor is used to turn off the screen when you r on the call. It will work when your face touch on the screen.

Well, You r speaking about ambient sensor. Dont get much confuse about that.

Simply you can adjust the screen brightness by manually. Settings > Display > Brightness.

Or you can download the Brightness level widget.

dont know why though...

in my arc , it works Smiling_Face_with_open_mouth_&_closed_Eyes but the rate of change is very minimal..
